In Impala, you'll enjoy stretch-out room unmatched by even a $66,000 Lexus LS460 Sedan. Plus, Impala has a huge 18.6-cu.-ft. trunk(10) and a versatile flip-and-fold-flat rear seat (standard on LTZ; LT requires available Luxury Edition Package). Flip through the photos at right for a demonstration.
Impala LS and Impala LT offer available seating for six. Ford Taurus, Dodge Charger and Nissan Maxima do not offer this versatile seating option.
PERFORMANCE
MPG that Taurus or Charger can't match. The 3.5L V6 engine is designed to deliver highway mileage the Ford Taurus, Dodge Charger and Nissan Maxima can't match - 29 MPG highway(7) when running on gasoline. Power and torque when you need it. Both the 3.5L V6 and the 3.9L V6(8) feature Variable Valve Timing(VVT). By adjusting the timing of the intake and exhaust valves, VVT optimizes combustion, enhances low-end torque and high-end power, and helps control emissions.
The engines in Impala are E85(9) FlexFuel-capable, unlike the engines in any Honda or Toyota car. E85 is a cleaner-burning, mostly renewable fuel source made primarily from U.S.-grown biomaterial, which can help reduce our dependence on petroleum.

TECHNOLOGY
Available exclusively for Impala LT, the Luxury Edition Package (shown right) has all the features you might expect from a more expensive car. It includes heated front bucket seats with leather appointments, six-way power passenger seat, flip-and-fold-flat rear seat, Bose� premium sound system, Universal Home Remote, auto-dimming rearview mirror, outside heated mirrors and a rear spoiler. SAFETY
An electronic stability control system will be required on all cars by 2012. You don't have to wait - this important safety feature is already standard in every Impala.
StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control assists the driver with directional control of the vehicle in difficult driving conditions. Sensors monitor the path being steered and the direction the vehicle is actually turning. If it detects a difference, it selectively applies brake pressure to the appropriate wheel to help get the vehicle back on track.

Safety Cage Construction
With reinforced steel used for the roof, vertical pillars and side door beams, the safety cage is designed to help preserve occupant space in a crash.
Automatic Crash Response
Impala offers the security of OnStar(12), with Automatic Crash Response, standard for the first six months. Built-in vehicle sensors can send an alert to OnStar. Even if you don't respond, an OnStar Advisor can request that emergency help be sent right away. Learn more about OnStar.
Six Air Bags
Every Impala includes six standard air bags(13): dual-stage frontal air bags, side-impact air bags for the driver and right front passenger; and head curtain side-impact air bags for front and rear outboard occupants.
