In Impala you’ll find vehicle safety features that help prevent crashes, but in the event of a collision Impala helps protect you and your passengers with an extensive approach to safety applied to every Chevrolet vehicle — before, during and after.
The StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control system assists the driver with directional control of the vehicle in difficult driving conditions. Sensors monitor the path being steered and the direction the vehicle is actually turning. If a difference is detected, StabiliTrak® selectively applies brake pressure to the appropriate wheel to help get the vehicle back on track.
In the event of a collision, you and your passengers are enclosed in a steel safety cage supported by reinforced steel used for the roof, vertical pillars and side door beams to help maintain passenger space. And every Impala includes six standard air bags†: dual-stage frontal air bags, side-impact air bags for the driver and right-front passenger; and head-curtain side-impact air bags for front and rear outboard occupants.
Impala offers the unmatched lifesaving technology of OnStar®. In the event of a crash, you’re automatically connected to help through OnStar with Directions & Connections® — including Automatic Crash Response — standard for the first six months†. Learn more about OnStar.

Continuously Variable Valve Timing (VVT) adjusts airflow in and out of the combustion chamber under all engine speeds, which makes for better fuel economy and lower emissions. With Direct Injection, fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber in one of two ways; either before air flows into the cylinder or at the same time, resulting in efficient power generation and fuel consumption.
An electronically controlled six-speed transmission allows the engine to operate at a lower rate of speed as compared to transmissions with fewer gears, which results in better fuel economy. The engine has been factory-filled with engine oil meeting GM’s new dexos™ specification, which has improved viscosity characteristics as compared to the previous GF-4 oil, contributing to better fuel economy.
Both the engine and transmission facilities are landfill-free. These facilities use a process to reuse, recycle or convert to energy all waste created in their daily operations, which conserves resources.
The Warren, MI, transmission facility features designated habitat areas certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council, which provide ecological benefits.
After the vehicle’s useful life, 85% of it is recyclable. The majority of its components can be broken down and recycled, which conserves resources and reduces landfill deposits.
