It’s got the look

Every inch of Sonic was considered in great detail. From its dramatic lines to the subtlety of the Black Granite Metallic paint around the headlamps, every element works together to create a sophisticated appearance with attitude. From its chiseled front end to its aggressive stance and expressive wheel arches, every detail builds on the other to create Sonic. When you have a car with this much power under the hood and up to 40 MPG hwy it has to be backed up by a look to match.

Get noticed

Sonic is the only small car built right here in the United States. Its defined front end with motorcycle-inspired, exposed headlamps and unique dual-port grille make a strong visual statement. Kick it up a notch with available foglamps and chrome accents standard on LTZ, and rest assured you’ll make an all-eyes-on-you entrance long before you even arrive.

Pick your wheels

Boost its aggressive and sporty stance with eye-catching wheel options. From the LS steel wheels with full bolt-on wheel covers to the whole lineup of available dealer installed Z-Spec wheels, your Sonic will be riding in style. The LT sports 15-inch painted aluminum wheels, or you can upgrade to the optional 16-inch wheels available with the Wheels and Foglamp Package. For a little more edge to your ride, go for the LTZ model with standard 17-inch painted aluminum wheels.

Go ahead and load it up

There’s a smart way to make use of space, and Sonic is brilliant. Upper and lower glove boxes keep your stuff easily within reach. Bringing a water bottle with you? There are holders incorporated right into the front doors. That’s just in the front. The rear is pretty impressive too. With 14.9 cubic feet of trunk space, more than Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla, and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, you’ll be able to configure the space for just about anything. So whether it’s skis or a giant sub sandwich, Sonic is game.

Attention to details — every last one of them

Recently named one of Ward’s Top 10 Interiors, joining the ranks of Audi, Land Rover and Infiniti to name a few, the dual cockpit interior and motorcycle-inspired instrument cluster with graphite silver accents get your blood pumping before you even turn the key. The performance-inspired design elements Sonic boasts on the exterior are exactly what you find when you get behind the wheel. Sonic is ready to be driven, so grab onto its three-spoke steering wheel designed for optimal grip and hold on tight.

Comfort and convenience

Sure, Sonic has an edge but it’s made for comfort too. Every seat in Sonic was designed to give you and your passengers the best ride possible. Enjoy perforated leatherette seating in the LTZ, with heated seats providing added comfort for you and your front passenger. And you can rest assured because Sonic has your back with OnStar® Turn-by-Turn Navigation standard for the first six months. With the press of a button you’ll be connected with a friendly OnStar® Advisor ready to help get you where you’re going. So buckle up and get ready to go.

The only turbocharged engine in its class

Be forewarned: After you take your friends for a ride, they may begin to show signs of Sonic envy — because when you turbocharge the drive, things get a lot more interesting. Sonic achieved 0-60 mph in less than 8 seconds on the test track. Whether it’s making an emergency maneuver or just merging onto the freeway, Sonic makes the power you need available. With 138 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of by far the most torque in its class, you’ll soon find out that Sonic is the most fun-to-drive car and it offers up to 40 MPG hwy.

Handling and comfortable ride, together at last

Sonic engineers went through hundreds of suspension variations until they found the perfect blend of handling and comfortable ride, giving Sonic extraordinary agility and sportiness. It’s a tight and sporty drive that will get you excited when you step on the gas. Sonic offers the most available torque in its class, which means the most get-up-and-go. Sonic is pumped and ready for a good ride.

Designed with you in mind

No matter how you slice it, Sonic offers options that will get you excited to hit the road. Sonic offers Hill Start Assist, which helps you stay put on steep inclines while you transition from the brake pedal to the gas pedal. Whether it's going downhill in reverse or driving uphill, Sonic keeps you steady.

40 MPG hwy — so many miles, so little gas

Whether you’re commuting during the week or taking a long road trip on the weekend, Sonic, equipped with the available turbocharged engine, offers up to 488 highway miles on a single tank of gas. Engineering technology in performance and design makes it possible. Its available 1.4L turbocharged engine on LT and LTZ models offers up to 40 MPG on the highway without sacrificing its power and athleticism. There’s a lot that goes into making a car as fuel efficient as possible, which translates into money in your pocket — not the pump.

A safety philosophy that runs deep

Sonic boasts aggressive styling and impressive power, but make no mistake — with Sonic, safety is a priority. Sonic is the first and only car in is class to receive a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for safety from NHTSA and was also named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Sonic is built around a steel safety cage and offers extensive safety features for prevention, reaction and response technology to optimize safety before, during and after a crash, if needed. Other advancements you can count on—including daytime running lamps and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System — are just a few of the ways we help you avoid trouble on the road.

From the moment you set out on the road, technologies like the StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System with traction control are at the ready. On slippery surfaces, StabiliTrak helps you stay on course by detecting the difference between the path being steered and the direction the vehicle is actually traveling.

It then uses the brakes and, if necessary, adjusts engine torque to help you keep your Sonic on track. What’s more, 4-wheel antilock brakes help maintain control and stability during hard braking by preventing wheel lockup. And Electronic Brake Force Distribution on the front and rear brakes has Panic Brake Assist to help optimize stopping power.

Sometimes, however, trouble finds you. And if a moderate-to-severe collision does occur, Sonic is designed to respond quickly as the first and only car in its class with 10 standard air bags. Sensors throughout the vehicle determine how many air bags deploy — including knee air bags for the driver and front passenger. Adding to this protection, the cabin is reinforced with high-strength steel throughout. Meanwhile, front and rear “crush zones” are designed to compress in a controlled manner, helping absorb and channel energy away from the cabin. But our protective measures don’t end there.

In many crashes, built-in sensors can automatically alert an OnStar®† Advisor, who is immediately connected into the vehicle to see if you need help. Even if you don’t respond, the Advisor can use GPS technology to pinpoint your exact location and request that emergency help be sent right away. It’s part of the OnStar Directions & Connections® Plan, which is standard for the first six months, because nothing is more important than your safety.

Check out its “Ecologic” Features. Here at Chevrolet, we believe in being a responsible steward of our environment. Recently, we’ve developed a new way to communicate some of the environmentally significant features of each vehicle we make. We call it “Ecologic.”

Every aspect of Ecologic is audited by Two Tomorrows, an independent third party sustainability auditor. To learn more about Ecologic and the Two Tomorrows’ process, click here.

Fuel-Saving Technologies

Continuously Variable Valve Timing (VVT) adjusts airflow in and out of the combustion chamber under all engine speeds, which makes for better fuel economy and lower emissions. Electric power steering uses an electric motor instead of an engine-driven belt, which results in a lighter overall workload and better fuel economy.

The engine has been factory-filled with engine oil meeting GM’s new dexosTM specification, which has improved viscosity characteristics as compared to the previous GF-4 oil, contributing to better fuel economy. An available advanced small-displacement 1.4-liter turbocharged Ecotec four-cylinder engine offers 40 MPG highway. With reduced engine displacement and an advanced turbocharger, this vehicle delivers segment-leading fuel economy and torque.

Responsible Manufacturing

Landfill gas supplies more than 20% of the total energy for heating and cooling of the final assembly facility, which makes the facility less reliant on fossil fuels. The 1.4L engine facility and the transmission facilities are landfill-free. These facilities use a process to reuse, recycle or convert to energy all waste created in their daily operations, which conserves resources.

Sonic is the only vehicle in its class assembled in the United States. This reduces energy consumption and emissions related to vehicle transport. The Toledo, OH, transmission facility features designated habitat areas certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council, which provide ecological benefits.

End-of-Life Recyclability

After the vehicle’s useful life, 85% of it is recyclable. The majority of its components can be broken down and recycled, which conserves resources and reduces landfill deposits.
