Your tires are among the most important safety features on your Chevrolet. Low tire pressure can lead to tire overheating and possibly cause the tread to separate from the tire. Overinflated tires can cause a vehicle to lose traction on the road.
It’s important to point out that radial tires can look fine even when they’re underinflated. Be sure to look for objects that have become wedged in the tread — they can work themselves further into the tire and cause a loss in tire pressure. And don’t forget to check the spare!
Underinflated or overinflated tires can cause:
Checking Tire Air Pressure
Maximize your tires’ performance and durability by monitoring and maintaining correct air pressure. Air is a gas, expanding when heated and contracting when cooled. For most of North America, fall and early winter are especially important times for checking tire pressure — as the ambient temperature falls, tire air pressure goes down.
Check your vehicle’s tires at least once a month when the tires are cold (let the vehicle sit for at least 3 hours). Always refer to your Chevrolet Vehicle Owner’s Manual for the recommended tire inflation for your vehicle. Most newer model Chevrolet vehicles have tire pressure sensors to keep you informed of your tire pressure. If you are measuring your tire pressure manually, be sure to use a quality gauge. Do not attempt to drive a vehicle with a dangerously overinflated or underinflated tire.
