Engineering a Better Hand Cycle

To show gratitude to those who serve, talented Chevy engineers partnered with a group of ambitious mechanical engineering students from Michigan Technological University to develop a better, more efficient hand cycle for the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans. The new hand cycle has been designed to be more comfortable, portable and durable. These improved features will help the athletes achieve new goals as their competitive spirit pushes them forward in upcoming races.

How You Can Donate

Your support and generosity play a major role in helping these athletes move forward. There are many ways you can stand behind the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans – from individual donations to corporate sponsorships. You can even purchase an entire hand cycle to be used by an Achilles athlete in competition for just $3,500.

Marathon Riders

The Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans comprises true athletes who have overcome life-changing injuries by competing in various marathons across the country. Their competitive spirit was captured at the Detroit Free Press/Talmer Bank International Marathon, where each cyclist showed their skill, strength, dedication and determination. The video showcases these riders as they give their all while inspiring others.

Cell Phones for Soldiers

For a serviceman or woman deployed far from home, the comfort of a loved one’s voice can make all the difference in the world. By donating a gently used cell phone, you can help soldiers stay connected while they’re away on duty. The Cell Phones for Soldiers program takes donated cell phones, recycles them and uses the money to purchase calling cards. These calling cards allow our troops to stay in contact with family and friends back home free of charge.

Ride 2 Recovery

R2R supports Project HERO cycling programs at Military and VA locations around the U.S. to help healing heroes overcome obstacles they face. R2R Challenge events provide valuable rehabilitation and reintegration opportunities for our healing heroes. These programs unite our wounded veterans and inspire them to go farther when they ride – whether it’s 10 miles or a 450-mile ride along California’s coast. Get involved by volunteering at an event in your area or make a donation to support an individual rider. More than 90 cents of each dollar you donate goes directly to helping one of the Healing Heroes participate in the Ride 2 Recovery.

  • 1 2 Donations will be capped at $175,000. Take delivery by 5/31/13.
  • 2 1 Eligible military personnel includes Active Duty members, Reserves, Veterans within one year of discharge date and Retirees – including their spouses – of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, National Guard and Coast Guard. Excludes Camaro ZL1 and Corvette Stingray.
