After a slow start to the 2005 campaign in which he won just three rounds in the first five races, Kurt Johnson debuted a brand-new Chevy Cobalt at the season's sixth event at Bristol, Tenn., and clawed his way back into the POWERade points chase. When the year ended 17 races later at Pomona, the ACDelco Chevrolet driver had captured four national-event victories, advanced to seven final rounds, earned four raceday pole awards, won 44 eliminator rounds and scored his fourth career second-place points finish. Johnson was the NHRA Rookie of the Year in 1993, and since making his Pro Stock debut the Northeast Georgia resident has 11 top-five and 13 top-10 points finishes. Johnson's also won at least one race every year since 1995 (the longest current streak in NHRA Pro Stock) and his 418 career round wins are second only to Warren Johnson among full-time, active Pro Stock drivers.
