Corvette celebrates its 60-year history

To mark this milestone in the Corvette story, the Corvette 60th Anniversary Design Package will be available on all 2013 Corvette models. Showcased here on the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible, this package boasts an Arctic White exterior and a Blue Diamond leather-wrapped interior with sueded microfiber accents. The optional graphics package adds a classic track-ready appearance with full-length racing stripes in Pearl Silver Blue.

The stripes run the full length of the vehicle, including the interior in convertible models. The convertible top even continues the appearance with stitched stripes. The package also includes gray-painted brake calipers, a ZR1 rear spoiler and 60th Anniversary badging on the wheel center caps, steering wheel and seat head restraints to give a finishing touch to this sleek and distinctive appearance.

Performance

Power harnessed and finely tuned

Corvette convertible is inspired by the speed and force echoing from the world’s most legendary racetracks, while remaining road ready. Its hydroformed steel structure gives Corvette its iconic shape and strength. It stabilizes the convertible so completely that no additional support is necessary, so relax and enjoy all of the performance Corvette has to offer

The standard 6.2-liter LS3 all-aluminum small block V8 engine powering the convertible produces 430 horsepower and 424 lb.-ft. of torque (436 horsepower and 428 lb.-ft. of torque with available dual-mode exhaust). And with its favorable power-to-weight ratio, Corvette convertible performs like a thoroughbred, with a 0 to 60 time of 4.2 seconds on the test track.

This all translates to off-track precision and performance, not to mention efficiency. Offering 26 MPG highway† with manual transmission, Corvette convertible boasts a better highway fuel economy than Porsche 911 Targa 4S, and equals many 6-cylinder sports cars, including BMW Z4 ADrive35is†.

Suspension dialed to perfection

Stiffen the suspension capability for winding roads while providing a more compliant ride for city and highway driving with available Magnetic Selective Ride Control™. An electromagnetic coil resides inside each damper piston. When an electrical current is applied—variably controlled by a microprocessor — ferrous particles in the shock fluid instantly bond, making the fluid more flow resistant, effectively stiffening the shock’s damping. Conversely, when the electromagnetic field is reduced, the fluid flows more freely, allowing easier suspension movement. Explore two cockpit settings — Tour and Sport.

 

Launch control — power straight
to pavement

Put the pedal to the floor and let launch control take care of the rest. When there’s this much power, launch control is the perfect middleman between you and sheer bliss. Standard with the short-throw 6-speed manual gearbox, it modulates engine rpm in competitive mode to lay the power down more smoothly while providing consistent acceleration times on the test track. It’s a feature for those who like to compete in club-sanctioned closed-course track events, but may just tempt others to start.

A top made for dropping

It’s a convertible for a reason, drop the top and let the natural air refresh your senses. Select either the standard manual top or the available power top that lets you raise the roof in 18 seconds, because we know you never want to leave the driver seat. Even with the top down, there’s still plenty of trunk space for anything, including two golf bags for those stressful business meetings.

Optional microfiber seat inserts complement the new design even further, as does the revised steering wheel featuring model-specific badges, streamlined switch trim, wrapped spokes, better hand placement and thumb grips.

Padded center console and armrests on all models soften the interior, while the added visual touch of contrasting color stitching — in red, blue and yellow — is available with the Custom Leather-Wrapped Interior Package on the 4LT trim level. Our philosophy on safety emphasizes prevention with important features such as Active Handling and four-wheel antilock brakes, but in the event of a collision, Corvette convertible is engineered for safety before, during and — thanks to OnStar® — after a collision to help keep you protected†.

Before

Active Handling, run-flat tires and four-wheel antilock brakes help you stay on the road and in control to help avoid crashes in the first place, while standard xenon high-intensity discharge headlamps shed 900 lumens of light onto the road for excellent visibility. And if there’s a loss of tire pressure, Corvette convertible’s run-flat tires help enable safe function for some distance at a moderate speed until the tire can be repaired.

During

In the event of a collision, Corvette convertible is designed to help keep you and your passengers protected with frontal and side-impact air bags†.

After

OnStar with Directions & Connections® and Automatic Crash Response† uses built-in sensors that can automatically alert an Advisor who is immediately connected with your vehicle and can request emergency help be sent to your exact GPS location — even if you’re unable to respond. Standard for the first six months.

How Sustainable is the Corvette?

Fuel-Saving Technologies

Low-mass materials, such as an aluminum cockpit structure, lightweight composite body panels, balsa wood floor panel and an aluminum engine block and cylinder head, reduce engine workload and contribute to better fuel economy.

A six-speed transmission allows the engine to operate at a lower rate of speed as compared to transmissions with fewer gears, which results in better fuel economy. Transmissions employ shift management technologies when maximum engine power is not required. When these technologies engage, engine workload is reduced, which contributes to better fuel economy. Manual transmission has skip shift technology (1st to 4th). Automatic transmission has 2nd gear start.

The engine has been factory-filled with engine oil meeting GM's new dexos™ specification, which has improved viscosity characteristics as compared to the previous GF-4 oil, contributing to better fuel economy.

Responsible Manufacturing

The engine facilities are landfill-free. These facilities use a process to reuse, recycle or convert to energy all waste created in their daily operations, which conserves resources. Some water and engine-air deflectors are manufactured with more than 99% recycled content, which includes used tires. Recycled material conserves resources and reduces landfill deposits.

The Toledo, OH, transmission facility (automatic transmission only) features a designated habitat area certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council, which provides ecological benefits.The Bowling Green, KY, assembly plant features solar charging canopies on the grounds, which conserves resources and lessens dependence on fossil fuels.

Landfill gas supplies 16% of the energy to heat and cool the Toledo, OH, transmission facility (automatic transmission only), which makes the facility less reliant on fossil fuels.

End-of-Life Recyclability

After the vehicle’s useful life, 85% of it is recyclable. The majority of its components can be broken down and recycled, which conserves resources and reduces landfill deposits.
