The 2014 Corvette Stingray is a triumph of design and engineering. But Chevrolet didn’t stop there. With advanced technologies, a race-proven bloodline and a supercharged engine delivering an SAE certified 650 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque, the all-new 2015 Z06 launches Corvette into supercar territory.

At the intersection of Le Mans and the Autobahn sits the best of American automotive design and engineering — the all-new 2015 Corvette Z06. This world-class supercar is the closest link yet between Corvettes built for racing and the road. Created to elevate the driving experience to the next level, Z06 was engineered to be lightweight and rigid with an aluminum space frame, carbon-fiber hood and removable carbon-fiber roof panel. It was also designed to be powerful, with a supercharged 6.2L aluminum V8 engine delivering an SAE certified 650 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque.

The 2015 Corvette Z06 is the industry’s only supercar to achieve 650 horsepower and offer a choice of two transmissions – a 7-speed manual or an all-new paddle-shift 8-speed automatic. The driver-centric Z06 elevates the experience even further with technologies like a Driver Mode Selector, which allows for customization of vehicle performance dynamics with the turn of a knob. And Corvette owners can relive their drives on or off the track with the available industry-exclusive Performance Data Recorder, which records high-definition video with telemetry overlays on playback.

A Supercar Unveiled

Last January, Chevrolet unveiled the all-new 2014 Corvette Stingray, a stunning instrument of precision that went on to become the industry’s most awarded car of the year. This January 13 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Chevrolet revealed the car that launches the seventh-generation Corvette into supercar territory.

Dominant on legendary race tracks around the world, Corvette was the most-awarded racing nameplate in the American Le Mans Series and a seven-time winner at 24 Hours of Le Mans. The next generation C7.R race car will debut this season in the new TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Series. The C7.R and the 2015 Corvette Z06 share unprecedented levels of engineering and components including chassis architecture, engine technologies and aerodynamic strategies.

The all-new Z06 is the best example yet of the technology transfer between racing and production Corvettes. First, engineers took what they learned on the Corvette Racing C6.R and applied that knowledge to the 2014 Corvette Stingray. Then, using the Stingray as a foundation, the Z06 and C7.R were co-developed to push the envelope of performance on the street and the track.

A functional evolution in downforce

Virtually every exterior change on the 2015 Corvette Z06 served a functional purpose, as this supercar needed more of everything. The wider flared fenders accommodate larger, wider wheels and tires for more grip. Larger vents provide more cooling air to the engine, brakes, transmission and differential for increased track capability. And the more aggressive aerodynamic package generates true downforce for more cornering grip and high-speed stability. The rear design has been extended by 80 mm and the front design extended by 56 mm, creating a more arresting stance and delivering enhanced handling. To deliver even more grip, the Z06 is fitted with larger Michelin® summer-only tires — Pilot® Super Sport ZP tires are standard, or upgrade to Pilot® Sport Cup 2 ZP tires with the Z07 Package.

Three levels of aerodynamic downforce

The all-new Corvette Z06 offers three levels of aerodynamic downforce: First, the standard Z06 features a front splitter, spats around the front wheel openings, a unique carbon-fiber hood with a larger vent, and a rear spoiler from the Corvette Stingray’s available Z51 Performance Package. Step up a level with an available Carbon-Fiber Aero Package (in either black or a visible carbon-fiber finish), which adds a carbon-fiber front splitter with aviation-style winglets, carbon-fiber rocker panels, and a larger rear spoiler with a fixed wickerbill — a small, vertical tab at the edge of the spoiler that significantly increases downforce. At the highest level, the available Z07 Package adds even larger winglets to the front splitter, along with an adjustable, transparent center section on the rear spoiler for track use. With this package, the Corvette Z06 delivers the most aerodynamic downforce of any production car that GM has ever tested.

Cooling air flow

Its exterior design also reflects the increased cooling Z06 needs to maximize performance dynamics. A unique mesh grille features dedicated brake-cooling intakes and wider grille outlets, as well as a larger hood vent, which not only vents hot air from the engine compartment, but also contributes to downforce. Additional cooling elements include larger front fender vents and unique air blades over the inlets on the rear fenders, standard front and rear brake-cooling ducts, as well as larger rear-fascia openings than the Stingray.

Removable roof panel

The 2015 Corvette Z06 features a carbon-fiber hood and, for the first time ever, a removable carbon-fiber roof panel. The use of carbon-fiber strips away weight, lowering the vehicle’s center of gravity and maintaining optimal weight distribution for precise handling. Plus, it allows Z06 owners to enjoy an open roof for the first time.

Driver-centric interior

Inside, the Corvette Z06 is distinguished from the Stingray with unique color schemes that emphasize the driver-focused cockpit, as well as a unique, flat-bottom steering wheel. Like the Stingray, the Z06 offers two seating choices: a GT seat for all-around support and comfort, and a Competition Sport seat with more aggressive side bolstering, which provides greater support on the track. The frame structure for both seats is made of magnesium, for greater strength and less weight than comparable steel frames. They’re also more rigid, contributing to the enhanced feeling of support during performance driving. And all models feature a fully wrapped interior, with every surface covered with premium, soft-touch materials, including available Napa leather, aluminum, carbon fiber and sueded microfiber.

Powerful, efficient performance

The 2015 Corvette Z06 is powered by an LT4 supercharged 6.2L aluminum V8 engine delivering an SAE certified 650 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine incorporates a more efficient, more compact next-generation supercharger, as well as a dry sump oil system, lightweight titanium intake valves and connecting rods for reduced reciprocating mass. And while advanced engine technologies enable supercar performance, Corvette engineers have managed to increase LT4 fuel efficiency by leveraging the same trio of advanced technologies introduced on the Corvette Stingray powertrain: Direct Injection, Active Fuel Management™ and continuously Variable Valve Timing.

Choice of transmissions

The 2015 Corvette Z06 is the only supercar that delivers 650 horsepower and offers the choice of a 7-speed manual or an all-new available track-certified 8-speed paddle-shift automatic. The standard 7-speed with Active Rev Matching enhances the driving experience by simulating heel-toe shifting perfection at the touch of a switch. The available 8-speed paddle-shift automatic offers the smooth control of a true automatic but with quick, precise shifts and manual mode for track driving. The 8-speed automatic delivers performance on par with dual-clutch design, but without sacrificing refinement.

An intuitive driving experience

The turn of a dial changes everything. With the Driver Mode Selector, you can fine-tune your driving experience
with five distinct, selectable driver modes: Weather, Eco, Tour, Sport and Track. Each mode electronically
calibrate up to 12 performance variables to customize and optimize the Corvette Z06 supercar for any road.

Three of the dozen performance variables that the Driver Mode Selector can adjust are Magnetic Selective Ride
Control, Performance Traction Management (PTM) and Electronic Limited-Slip Differential (eLSD). Standard
Magnetic Ride technology adapts every 10-15 milliseconds, stiffening the suspension for performance driving
without sacrificing a smooth ride. Available in Track Mode, PTM offers five settings of torque reduction and brake
intervention for track driving.

Standard on Z06, eLSD makes the most of the torque split between the rear wheels. The system, which
becomes more aggressive in Sport and Track Modes, is designed to improve stability and responsiveness.
eLSD also features a hydraulically actuated clutch that can infinitely vary clutch engagement and respond
from open to full engagement in mere tenths of a second in order to improve steering feel, handling balance
and traction.

Grip the road and stop fast

The 2015 Corvette Z06 offers your choice of the standard Michelin® Pilot® Super Sport ZP tires or the track-proven Michelin® Pilot® Sport Cup 2 ZP tires included with the available Z07 Performance package for even more grip. Brembo® brakes increase performance and decrease weight while delivering confident stopping power. Large rotors — 14.6"/14.4" two-piece steel rotors or available 15.5" /15.3" carbon-ceramic rotors with the Z07 Performance Package — keep your stops fast and precise.

No compromises

Like its Stingray cousin, the Corvette Z06 convertible is built on the same rigid aluminum frame structure as the coupe version. Designed from the start to be an open-top vehicle, no additional reinforcements were required. The convertible design mimics the coupe roof to reduce drag, while increased downforce keeps the vehicle planted and efficient airflow controls temperatures and improves vehicle handling. The convertible Z06 delivers the same optimal performance as the coupe, but with the unprecedented option to lower the top. In fact, the 2015 Z06 is the very first 650 HP supercar to be made available in both coupe and convertible, as well as automatic or manual transmission. The best of both worlds, in any universe.

Open it up

The inaugural Z06 convertible features an all-new fully electronic drop-top that can be lowered remotely using the key fob or even while driving at speeds up to 30 mph — all without the need for mechanical latches. With the top up, a thick three-ply design ensures maximum sound absorption for a quiet cabin. And when you decide to put the top down, it hides beneath a body-colored tonneau cover, flowing down in a waterfall design between the seats.
