Share the engineering behind Volt with our youth so they can finish what we start
Once upon a time, electricity transformed humanity, and now it’s having another go at it with the Chevy Volt. And Detroit’s youth have a front-row seat to the show.
On November 9, 2010, we invited over 100 Detroit middle school students to the Detroit-Hamtramck manufacturing facility for a lesson in energy. “The Power of the Plug: How Electricity Will Change Our World…Again” was an interactive presentation that was held in the plant’s auditorium.
The presentation covered the basics of electricity, how it’s generated, its past, and how it’s future is going to change transportation.
Students from the Kosciusko Middle School in Hamtramck, Detroit International Academy for Young Women, and the Frederick Douglass Academy for Young Men attended in person. In addition to that, 149 students from around the country participated through a live web cast.
The way we see it, we need to include our youth since they’re the ones who’ll have to finish what we start. The Chevy Volt is a baseline for change. Something the next generation will have to build on.
Tony Posawatz, Volt Line Director for Chevrolet, not only led the Q&A, he also summed up the logic behind the innovation: “It’s inexpensive, it’s cleaner and it really is the transportation fuel of the future.”
Whether you believe it or not, electricity will change the world again.
