There are two words in the English language that defined my childhood dreams: power and wheels.
Power Wheels was the gift every toddler wanted—a motorized vehicle built just for them. But it seemed I was destined to gaze at those fast-moving spectacles of human ingenuity from afar. I was like Gollum pursuing his precious.
Sure, I tried to carjack a couple of kids on the playground, and a few times they willingly shared with me, but I grew up pining. One day as a teenager I even tried to drive one around a toy store. The store manager was impressed. Obviously.
Power Wheels ruled my waking and sleeping life. Whenever I heard one powering down a gravelly sidewalk, I dropped everything I was doing, like some Indy Car fanatic, to see it pass by.
Sure, I never did get my hands on that beautiful machine as a kid, but you know what? THAT’S WHY WE HAVE KIDS. It’s not the only reason, of course, but it’s a darn good one. When my wife and I found out we were having a baby, you better believe the idea of him driving a Power Wheels car sped past in the racetrack of my mind. There’s a part of me that believes parenthood is a great opportunity to provide your kids with the opportunities—and heck, THE TOYS—that you never had.
This might be a good time to mention that little boys and girls can now drive a bright red (or pink) 2014 Corvette Stingray Power Wheels, just like the new street-legal adult version of the Stingray that Chevrolet has launched. It’s the fastest Power Wheels in the line—at 6 mph!
You can have your toy and your kids can have theirs—virtually identical, side by side. As always, though, kids rule. No cops will pull them over for driving their flashy red car. And all they need to be cool is the open road of your backyard or a playground, and some snazzy sunglasses.
So be a rad dad or mom. Make my dreams come true for your child. Get him or her a Corvette Power Wheels.
