The story behind “Need You” by Jacob Steele
How did the soundtrack from one of our Cruze ECO commercials grow into a full-blown pop single? Well, the answer to that question is simple: The people spoke. And we listened.

Within moments of airing “Long Distance” for the first time back in June, our Twitter, Facebook and YouTube accounts were flooded with an overwhelming response. Fans had fallen in love with the story: Girl and guy say goodbye. But even long distance can’t keep them apart.

But even louder than that response was a demand to know what song was being used as the score. The track was catchy. And after finding themselves singing it in the shower and humming it on their commutes, the audience discovered that no amount of googling would help them find it online. That’s because, back in June, all there was of “Need You” was a sixty-second clip written for our commercial by a talented musician named Jacob Steele.

What to do? Well, after about the hundredth post, we realized that there was no getting out of it. So we asked Jacob to go back into the studio and give the people what they asked for. And thanks to your insistence, what came out of that recording session was magic!

So here it is. We absolutely love this tune. And if you haven’t already, have a listen. We think you will love it too.

About the artist      
For someone who hails from Death Valley, California, Jacob Steele has a very sunny disposition in life. He attributes that and his love for music to a kindhearted mother who would sing to him and his sisters every night before bed.

At the young age of 18, Jacob moved all the way east to the bright lights of New York City. By day, he would wait tables to fund the nights spent honing his craft in the local independent music scene.

Through one of many collaborations with other talented artists, Jacob soon met a woman named Sita Chandrika—who would later become his writing partner and, eventually, his wife. The two continue to reside in New York where they write and sing music together.
