The 2013 GRAND-AM Road Racing Season Begins for Corvette and Camaro
One could argue that racing season never ends, but most would agree that Rolex 24 at Daytona is the true kickoff to each new year of racing. This year also marks the last time the race will be run in its current format now that GRAND-AM will merge with the American Le Mans Series in 2014.
The 51st edition of this 24-hour endurance race will be a prime showcase for Team Chevy, as multiple teams will race Corvettes, Corvette Daytona Prototypes, and Camaro GT.Rs. This exhaustive race is a testament to teamwork, meticulous planning and determination that define Team Chevy.
The first race of the season is never absent of excitement or intrigue, and this year there will be many high profile drivers from other racing disciplines taking part in this epic 24-hour battle. Fresh off of his IZOD IndyCar® Series Driver’s Championship, Ryan Hunter-Reay will get behind the wheel of the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP car.
Team Chevy will look to build off of the success that the Corvette DP enjoyed after debuting last season, fielding three teams in the top five in the overall DP class standings, all while locking up the Manufacturer (Engine) Championship for Chevrolet. Stevenson Motorsports finished second overall in the Grand Touring class standings in the No. 57 Camaro GT.R.
Rolex 24 qualifiers begin on Thursday, January 24th and the race kicks off at 3:30 PM on Saturday, January 26th.
