FOR THE 2014 STINGRAY CONVERTIBLE
[Geneva] — On March 5 the Corvette Stingray convertible was unveiled in Geneva, paying homage to its international flair. By the numbers, this will be the most powerful and technologically advanced standard Corvette to date. The Stingray offers a GM estimated 450 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft. of torque.
“It’s fitting to introduce the 2014 Corvette Stingray convertible on the global stage at Geneva, as Corvette is Chevrolet’s flagship around the world, recognized and admired even in countries where it’s never officially been offered,” said Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design. “The new Stingray is the most international Corvette ever — in terms of design, technology and performance … a worthy competitor to any convertible sports car in the world.”
Originally designed as an open-top vehicle, the convertible design is nearly identical to that of the coupe. Promises made by an LT1 V8 precision powerhouse that drives the 2014 Stingray, which combines advanced technology such as Direct Injection, Active Fuel Management™ and Variable Valve Timing, to ensure peak performance.
The Stingray is engineered to perfection, and it begins with the rigid aluminum space frame that is 57% stiffer and 45kg lighter than its predecessor. Nothing added or lost, nothing compromised between coupe and convertible.
“The Corvette was designed from the outset as an open car to deliver an exhilarating driving experience without performance compromises or a weight penalty over a coupe,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer. “There are no heavy, add-on reinforcements for the convertible.”
The electronic top is completely automatic and can be lowered and stowed with the touch of a fob, even when the vehicle is traveling at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. The clever waterfall design extends on either side of the tonneau cover, allowing the sleek lines of the exterior to cascade seamlessly into the interior.
Designed to be driven, the thick, three-ply material that makes up the top ensures a quiet ride. This, coupled with the glass rear window, allows the driver to focus on the experience that is Stingray.
