Lap It Up: Team Chevy Sets a New Record.

TEAM CHEVY WINS 35TH MANUFACTURERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP AND 28TH NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIESTM DRIVERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP.

From the high-banked superspeedways to the tri-ovals to the short tracks, 2011 was another banner year for Chevy in NASCAR® racing. No other team has matched our record for the most wins, the most Manufacturers’ Championships, our 28th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Drivers’ Championship, and the third win for Tony Stewart.

“What an incredible championship run Tony put on this year,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. Vice President of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “Winning a record five of the 10 Chase races and overcoming a deficit in the final race is the very definition of a champion. But he had been there before and he handled that pressure like the champion that he is.”

The Team Behind the Team.

We couldn’t have done it without teamwork from the dedicated owners, the experienced drivers and their crews, and the thousands of faithful fans who showed up to cheer us on during every race. They were the real power behind this successful season. And if we can blow our own horn a little, the power of the legendary Chevy small block V8 engine came in pretty handy, too.

“Each season is special and this one was no different. Racing runs deep in Chevrolet’s DNA and our passion for racing and winning drives us on and off the track,” said Alba Colon, Chevrolet NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Program Manager. “We race to push the boundaries of technology, but at the same time, we race for the millions of Chevy NASCAR fans just as much.”

This year, eight different Team Chevy drivers took the checkered flag — some more than once — for a total of 18 wins, and we would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank them: Tony Stewart with five wins in Chicago, Loudon, Martinsville, Texas and Homestead; Kevin Harvick with four wins in Fontana, Martinsville, Charlotte and Richmond; Jeff Gordon with three wins in Phoenix, Pocono and Atlanta; Jimmie Johnson with two wins in Talladega and Kansas; Paul Menard with one win in Indianapolis; Regan Smith with one win in Darlington; Ryan Newman with one win in Loudon; and Clint Bowyer who won in Talladega.

We would also like to give credit to the best team owners and crews in the sport: Hendrick Motorsports, Richard Childress Racing, Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, and Stewart-Haas Racing.

Racing is in our blood and we can’t wait until February 26, 2012, for the first race of the coming season, the 54th Annual “Great American Race,” also known as the DAYTONA 500. Until then, join the celebration on facebook.com/teamchevy.
