2008 IMPALA

2008 Impala Safety Features

Five-Star Frontal Crash Test Rating

The 2007 Impala earned a five-star rating for both the driver and front passenger seating positions in the frontal crash test. Government star ratings are part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA's) New Car Assessment Program (www.safercar.gov).

Antilock Brake System (ABS)

The antilock brake system (ABS) is a crash avoidance feature that helps prevent wheel lockup during braking in most slippery road conditions. Includes Traction Control. It's standard on 2LT, LTZ and SS and included in 1LT as part of the Luxury Edition Package.

Driver Information Center (DIC)

This standard feature helps keep you up to date on various functions of your Impala. Located inside the speedometer, the readout includes a GM Oil Life Monitor and conveys trip information and calculations. You also get to personalize settings such as door-lock functionality, Remote Keyless Entry preferences and remote start disablement (when equipped). Readouts are available in three languages — English, Spanish and French.

Head-Curtain Side-Impact Air Bags

Head-curtain side-impact air bags are designed to help reduce the risk of head injuries to front- and rear-seat outboard occupants on the near side of certain side-impact collisions. They're standard on every Impala.(1)

Electronic Traction Control

Included with available ABS, Electronic Traction Control helps reduce wheel spin on most slippery surfaces. It works in conjunction with the ABS and engine throttle control system to sense when a wheel is beginning to lose traction. It then transfers power to the drive wheel with the most grip. When the system is active, the driver is alerted through a telltale message in the Driver Information Center.

Passenger Sensing System

Standard on every Impala, the Passenger Sensing System(1) automatically switches the right-front passenger air bag on or off based on the passenger's weight and the type of pressure on the seat. A lighted indicator is located on the instrument panel.

OnStar

OnStar(2) with a one-year Safe & Sound Plan is standard when you purchase or lease an Impala. An OnStar Advisor is always ready to help in a variety of situations, whether you’ve locked your keys in the vehicle,(3) have a flat tire or the air bags have deployed.(1)

1 A NOTE ABOUT CHILD SAFETY: Always use safety belts and the correct child restraint for your child's age and size. Even in vehicles equipped with the Passenger Sensing System, children are safer when properly secured in a rear seat in the appropriate infant, child or booster seat. Never place a rear-facing infant restraint in the front seat of any vehicle equipped with an active air bag. Air bag inflation can cause severe injury or death to anyone too close to the bag when it deploys. Head-curtain side-impact air bags are designed to help reduce the risk of head and neck injuries to front and rear seat occupants on the near side of certain side-impact collisions. Be sure every occupant is properly restrained. See the Owner's Manual and child safety seat instructions for more safety information.
