Vortec V8 Engines
The next-generation Vortec V8 engines have taken a big step forward in power, performance and efficiency. The Vortec 5.3L V8 engine standard on half-ton 2WD models generates 320 horses, more standard horsepower than any competitor.(1) The available Vortec 6.0L V8 in half-ton models creates 366 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque. Both feature Active Fuel Management - technology, which allows for seamless movement from eight cylinders to four cylinders with no reduction in available power. The Vortec 6.0L standard in three-quarter-ton models has all the power and torque you expect from a Chevy Truck.
Both engines share these features:
- Composite Intake Manifold
- The composite intake manifold design allows the Vortec 5.3L to deliver high levels of torque at low- and mid-range engine speeds - ideal for towing - yet still supplies plenty of airflow for peak engine horsepower.
- Transmission Advancements
- For consistently smooth shifts, the four-speed automatic transmission features an input speed sensor and Transmission Control Module that optimize shift quality based on driver input. NEW Dexron VI transmission fluid provides long-term reliability and durability.
