Vortec V8 Engines
The next-generation Vortec 5.3L V8 engine is the evolution of everything we've learned about power, performance and efficiency. The engine is standard on LS 4x4 models and all LT and LTZ models and features NEW Active Fuel Management™ technology that helps Tahoe balance 320 horsepower with best-in-class fuel economy.(1) The engine also delivers 340 lb.-ft. of torque. Standard on Tahoe LS 2WD models, a new Vortec 4.8L V8 engine generates 295 horsepower and 305 lb.-ft. of torque.
The 5.3L engine features:
- Composite Intake Manifold
- The composite intake manifold design allows the Vortec 5.3L to deliver high levels of torque at low- and mid-range engine speeds - ideal for towing - yet still supplies plenty of airflow for peak engine horsepower.
- Transmission Advancements
- For consistently smooth shifts, the four-speed automatic transmission features an input speed sensor and Transmission Control Module that optimize shift quality based on driver input. NEW Dexron VI transmission fluid provides long-term reliability and durability.
