The Truck That Punches the Clock When You Do.

When you're on the job from sunup to sundown, the worst time to find out your truck doesn't have it is when it's in the middle of it. Long–lasting and dependable, the 2012 Silverado 2500HD is engineered with durable advanced technologies: a strong powertrain for big towing numbers, a sturdy frame to handle large payload and deliver a smooth ride, and secure trailering features to help keep it all under control. In other words, it's very capable indeed in all the areas that matter. From the work you do, to the life you live, Chevy Runs Deep.

Exterior

Silverado Is Better Looking Than Ever.

Silverado 2500HD is better than ever. New for 2012 are the Z71 Appearance Package and new exterior colors.

Capability

2012 Chevrolet Vortec 6.0L V8 Engine
Towing and Hauling

Silverado offers Tow/Haul Mode that enhances performance while pulling a trailer or hauling heavy loads. When activated, this feature modifies the automatic transmission shift schedule and helps reduce throttle pedal activity by the driver while traveling over rolling terrain. Cruise Grade Braking, which uses transmission downshifts to allow engine compression braking to slow the vehicle and its load, works in and out of Tow/Haul Mode on the Vortec® 6.0L engine.

What Makes Silverado Strong?
Powerful Force: Duramax 6.6L Turbo–Diesel and Allison® Transmission

Together, the reliable available Duramax® Diesel and the available legendary Allison transmission have been proving themselves in the field and on the job for over a decade.

Duramax Diesel has impressive torque and horsepower, as well as impressive towing numbers.

  • With a 36–gallon tank (approx.), the Duramax offers up to 680 highway miles4 on a single tank when running on Diesel fuel.
  • It's B20 biodiesel5 compatible and runs cleaner by using diesel exhaust fluid.

Heavy–duty Allison® six–speed transmission harnesses the power of the available Duramax. To make sure it can handle that amount of torque, we beef Silverado up with:

  • Strong torque converter
  • Large diameter output shaft
  • Robust clutches

E85 Capable

For 2012, the Vortec® 6.0L V8 engine, standard on Silverado 2500HD, can operate on E85, a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline8. As a mostly renewable fuel, it can reduce our dependence on petroleum and help reduce tailpipe emissions.

Best–in–Class Maximum Towing

The regular cab Silverado 2500HD with a diesel engine can tow 17,800 lbs.6, and the regular cab equipped with a gas engine has a maximum payload capacity of 4,212 lbs.7

2012 Chevrolet Vortec 6.0L V8 Engine
Well–crafted trucks built on a strong foundation

Our chassis features a high–strength, fully–boxed steel frame that lets Silverado 2500HD shoulder up to 4,212 lbs. of payload7,9. The suspension has big, strong components to handle large loads and provide the ride quality the driver deserves.

  • Massive components include three–inch wide rear leaf springs and precision–forged upper control arms
  • The independent front suspension allows each front wheel to react independently to rout terrain, helping keep each wheel in a vertical position and more firmly planted on the road
  • The steering knuckle is taller and 66% heavier than the previous generation to better manage larger capacities
  • The rear suspension has 3–inch leaf springs with an asymmetric design that reduces wheel hop on acceleration and better handles increased payloads

OnStar® Directions & Connections®13 Plan

Safety
What Makes Silverado 2500HD Secure?

Silverado pickup truck offers the available, durable heavy–duty Allison® six–speed transmission, plus a number of other components that give you confidence when you're towing or hauling a heavy load.

StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System

StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System helps you keep on the road and in control. The control module compares your steering input with the vehicle's actual response and then, if necessary, makes small, individual applications to help keep you on track. StabiliTrack includes Hill Start Assist which, on uphill inclines greater than 5%, automatically engages to hold the truck stationary for about a second after the brake is released. This gives you time to accelerate before the truck can roll backward. Also included is Trailer Sway Control—even more assurance—and something Ram doesn't offer. Working in conjunction with StabiliTrak, the Trailer Sway Control feature senses trailer way and automatically applies the truck's brakes to help reduce sway and help maintain control.

Come to a stop safely and securely.

Diesel Exhaust Brake System on the available Duramax® Diesel, it uses the technology of a variable vane geometry turbo to create back pressure to slow the vehicle down. That means reduced brake fade, prolonged brake life, and more confidence on steep grades. Auto Grade Braking automatically downshifts the transmission to help show the truck—and give you more control—when you apply the brakes while descending long, steep grades. Big, Strong Brakes: Large rotors and calipers improve brake pedal feel and result in shorter pedal travel. With Intelligent Brake Assist, the calipers are preloaded, so when the system senses a panic–braking situation, the brakes can be fully applied more quickly. Silverado also includes an available integrated trailer brake controller—an extra measure of security when you need it. Click here to read more about vehicle safety.
