Powerful Support

Our chassis features a high-strength, fully boxed steel frame that allows Silverado 3500HD to shoulder up to 7,222 lbs. of payload††. The suspension has massive components to handle huge loads and still provide a quality ride.

The independent front suspension allows each front wheel to react independently to rough terrain. The steering knuckle is tall and heavy to better manage larger capacities. Precision-machined forged upper control arms support the truck’s strength. These front suspension components help to keep each wheel in a vertical position and more firmly planted on the road.

The rear suspension has 3-inch leaf springs with an asymmetric design that helps handle increased payloads. The staggered rear shocks are designed to help dampen the vertical movement of the truck. These rear suspension components both help to reduce wheel hop on acceleration.

3500HD Brings Maximum Towing and Payload from Silverado

The Regular Cab Silverado 3500HD with a diesel engine can tow up to 23,100 lbs. with a fifth-wheel hitch†, while the Extended and Crew Cabs with diesel engines can tow up to 18,000 lbs. with a conventional hitch†. Our Regular Cab equipped with a gas engine has a maximum payload capacity of 7,222 lbs†.

Useful for when you’re hauling heavy loads, Trailer Sway Control (Single Rear Wheel Models) senses when a trailer starts to sway and automatically applies the truck’s brakes while reducing engine power. This feature works to let you get your truck back on track if necessary. If you’re stopped on inclines greater than 5%, Hill Start Assist (SRW models) automatically kicks in to keep the truck in place for about a second to give you just enough time to accelerate before the truck can roll backward.

Auto grade braking, which uses transmission downshifts to allow engine compression braking to slow the vehicle and its load, works in and out of Tow/Haul mode on the Vortec® 6.0L engine.

  • 4x4 6,000-lb. Front Gross Axle Weight Rating (FGAWR).

    The front suspension contains huge precision-forged upper control arms and torsion bars along with the largest steering gear we've ever used on a heavy-duty pickup truck, which supports up to a 6,000-lb. front gross axle rating. So every HD 4x4 model including our powerful Duramax® Diesel can accommodate a snow plow with the available Snow Plow Prep Package. Silverado HD incorporates torsion bars that allow an owner to adjust the front of the vehicle back to its normal ride height, even with the weight of a plow attached.

Secure Braking System

The Diesel Exhaust Brake System† included with the Duramax® Diesel, it uses the technology of a variable vane geometry turbo to create back pressure in the engine to slow the vehicle down. This allows for reduced brake fade, prolonged brake life, and more confidence on steep grades. Auto Grade Braking automatically downshifts the transmission to help slow the truck—and give you more control—when you apply the brakes while descending
long, steep grades. With Intelligent Brake Assist, the calipers are preloaded, so when the system senses a panic-
braking situation, the brakes can be fully applied more quickly. In addition to these powerful safety features, Silverado comes equipped with 2 standard air bags with the option of upgrading to 6 airbags†.

OnStar Safety Features on the 2013 Chevy Silverado 3500HD

StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System

This feature is there to help you keep on the road and stay in control. The control module compares your steering input with the vehicle’s actual response and then, if necessary, makes small, individual applications to help you keep on track.

Hill Start Assist, on uphill inclines greater than 5%, automatically engages to hold the truck stationary for about a second after the brake is released, giving you time to accelerate before the truck can roll backward. The Trailer Sway Control feature senses trailer way and automatically applies the truck’s brakes to help reduce sway and help maintain control.

Fuel-Saving Technologies

Engines have been factory-filled with engine oil meeting GM’s new dexosTM specification, which has improved viscosity characteristics as compared to the previous GF-4 oil, contributing to better fuel economy.

On the 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L and 6.2L V8 engines, Continuously Variable Valve Timing (VVT) adjusts airflow in and out of the combustion chamber under all engine speeds, which makes for better fuel economy and lower emissions. On the 5.3L V8 engine, Active Fuel ManagementTM deactivates fuel delivery to 4 cylinders in lighter-load conditions, such as highway cruising, which improves fuel economy. On the 6.6L Diesel V8 engine, the 29,000 psi piezo-actuated common-rail fuel-injection system uses minimal hydraulic control energy, to maximize fuel economy.

Responsible Manufacturing

The transmission facilities are landfill-free. These facilities use a process to reuse, recycle or convert to energy all waste created in their daily operations, which conserves resources.

The Romulus, MI, engine facility, along with the Toledo, OH, and Baltimore, MD, transmission facilities, feature designated habitat areas certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council, which provide ecological benefits.

Landfill gas supplies a portion of the energy needed to heat and cool the Toledo, OH, and Baltimore, MD, transmission facilities, which makes the facility less reliant on fossil fuels.

End-of-Life Recyclability

After the vehicle’s useful life, 85% of it is recyclable. The majority of its components can be broken down and recycled, which conserves resources and reduces landfill deposits.
