The all-new 2015 Suburban large SUV offers innovative driver assist technologies that use strategically located cameras and radar sensors around this large SUV to warn drivers of potential risks on the road or even in a parking lot. Suburban also includes an ingenious available segment-exclusive front center air bag.† and a number of features that make it easier and safer to tow or haul a load.
Available Rear Cross Traffic Alert is especially helpful in a crowded shopping mall parking lot and uses the same radar sensors as the Side Blind Zone Alert feature to help warn drivers of approaching traffic when backing up from up to 65 feet away. Visual and haptic alerts are triggered if moving vehicles are detected.
Available Forward Collision Alert warns the driver to possible front-end collision threats. The system activates at speeds above 25 mph and uses visual and haptic warnings. Drivers can use the steering wheel controls to adjust the closing speed range of the system through a three-way (far, medium or near) gap setting.
Standard on Suburban LT and LTZ, Lane Departure Warning uses a camera mounted behind the inside rearview mirror to alert drivers if they drift out of a lane without using a turn signal. The technology activates at speeds above 35 mph.
Working with available Side Blind Zone Alert, available Lane Change Alert employs radar sensors in the rear quarter panels to help detect and warn the driver of fast-approaching vehicles in the adjacent lane from up to 230 feet away, not just in the side mirror blind zones.
Available Adaptive Cruise Control uses radar to detect a vehicle ahead and automatically adjusts the SUV’s speed to maintain a selected following time/distance. For example, if the radar detects a slower vehicle ahead within the selected following gap time, the system will reduce the vehicle’s speed to match the gap time. When no traffic is detected ahead, the system will accelerate the vehicle back to the previously set speed.
Available Front Automatic Braking technology uses short-range radar and ultrasonic sensors in the bumpers of Suburban to help prevent or mitigate collisions at low speeds. The system will alert the driver if the lead vehicle slows unexpectedly. If the driver does not react quickly enough, the system can automatically apply the brakes to help slow the vehicle.
Suburban features an available Safety Alert Seat which uses directional seat vibrations on the left and/or right side of the driver seat cushion to alert the driver of a potential collision. Threats from the front and rear trigger pulses on both sides of the seat.
Standard on all models, the rear vision camera displays a view of the area immediately behind the vehicle on the radio screen. This feature helps drivers maneuver Suburban more efficiently, especially when hooked up to a trailer.
The available Front Park Assist technology uses ultrasonic sensors at the front of the large SUV to trigger a visual and haptic warning to help you when ppulling into a tight parking spot.
This helpful feature allows drivers to easily see rear-seat passengers.
When auto grade braking is engaged, the transmission automatically downshifts during deceleration to use engine compression to assist in braking. In addition to slowing the vehicle more efficiently, auto grade braking reduces brake rotor temperature and minimizes brake effort.
Standard on all models, the StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System compares steering input with vehicle response to help the driver keep the vehicle on the path being steered and maintain traction.
Working in conjunction with StabiliTrak, this feature senses conditions of trailer sway and intervenes with braking and/or reduced engine power to bring the trailer under control.
Hill Start Assist is automatically engaged when the vehicle is on a grade of 5 percent or greater. It holds the brakes for approximately 1.5 seconds or until the gas pedal is pressed, helping to prevent rollback, and is particularly effective when towing.
This segment-exclusive feature provides drivers with increased safety and confidence when traveling on wet or icy roads, gravel, mud and dirt.
Safety features are no substitute for the driver's responsibility to operate the vehicle in a safe manner. The driver should remain attentive to traffic, surroundings and road conditions at all times. Read the vehicle's owner's manual for more important safety information.
