Best-In-Class Fuel Economy And Just About Everything Else.

Believe it or not, “fuel-efficient, full-size SUV” is not a contradiction in terms. It’s the 2013 Chevy Tahoe Hybrid. With an EPA-estimated 20 MPG city/23 highway, Tahoe Hybrid offers best-in-class fuel economy. But just because it’s big on mileage doesn’t mean it’s short on room, power or capability.

Tahoe Hybrid offers a well-appointed interior with seating for up to eight, plus all the bells and whistles you could want. It also offers 332 horsepower, 367 lb.-ft. of torque and up to 6,200 lbs. of towing capability, just in case you’ve wandered from the neighborhood to “off the beaten path.” Add to that the Tahoe 100,000-mile/5-year Powertrain Warranty and 100,000-mile/8-year warranty on certain hybrid components, and you’ll realize Tahoe Hybrid pretty much offers the best of everything.

Unrivaled Economy, Full-Size Power

The brain of the Tahoe Hybrid is a control module — the hybrid operating system — that monitors the drive system hundreds of times a second. In stop-and-go conditions, the hybrid operating system employs gas or electric power — or a mixture of both —and can turn the gas engine off when moving slower than 30 mph. In steady cruising conditions, the 332-horsepower Vortec™ 6.0L V8 engine provides most of the power, with one or both of the electronically variable transmission’s (EVT) electric motors providing either additional propulsion or electrical energy used to charge the battery.

Regenerative braking captures energy that would otherwise be expended by braking friction. By using one or both of the EVT’s tractive motors as a generator, braking energy is converted to electrical energy and stored in the battery for future use. Lightweight aluminum in the hood, liftgate and wheels helps offset the weight of the battery. Millimeters were shaved from the chassis and tiny alterations were made to increase aerodynamic performance. Even the tires have low rolling resistance, cutting required rolling effort and optimizing fuel efficiency.

Prevention Is the Best Protection

Full-Size Safety

There’s a lot riding in your Tahoe Hybrid. Which is precisely why it includes some of the latest safety technology to help keep you safe on the road. Advanced electronic systems, coupled with engineering characteristics like its steel safety cage, work together to help prevent collisions and to help protect you if you're in one. It’s comprehensive safety before, during and after a collision.

Before

The StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System with Traction Control and four-wheel antilock brakes helps you stay in control when road conditions are slippery, and Proactive Roll Avoidance engages automatically to help reduce the risk of a rollover crash. The standard Tire Pressure Monitor lets you know when tire pressure levels are less than optimal.

During

Tahoe Hybrid is equipped with six standard air bags for the driver, right-front passenger and outboard rear occupants and a steel safety cage to help preserve occupant space in the vehicle.

After

OnStar® with Automatic Crash Response, standard for the first six months on Tahoe Hybrid, means you’re automatically connected to emergency assistance if an accident occurs — whether or not the air bags deploy.

How Sustainable is the Tahoe?

Check out its “Ecologic” Features. Here at Chevrolet, we believe in being a responsible steward of our environment. Recently, we’ve developed a new way to communicate some of the environmentally significant features of each vehicle we make. We call it “Ecologic.”

Every aspect of Ecologic is audited by Two Tomorrows, an independent third party sustainability auditor. To learn more about Ecologic and the Two Tomorrows’ process, click here.

Fuel-Saving Technologies

Continuously Variable Valve Timing (VVT) adjusts airflow in and out of the combustion chamber under all engine speeds, which makes for better fuel economy and lower emissions. Active Fuel Management™ deactivates fuel delivery to 4 cylinders in lighter-load conditions, such as highway cruising, which improves fuel economy. An electronically controlled six-speed transmission allows the engine to operate at a lower rate of speed as compared to transmissions with fewer gears, which results in better fuel economy.

Hybrid capability integrates an electric battery with an internal combustion engine to propel the vehicle. With battery power added, fuel consumption is less, especially in stop-and-go traffic. On Hybrid models, low rolling resistance tires reduce friction without compromising traction. Reduced friction lessens the energy needed to keep the vehicle moving, which improves fuel economy.

Responsible Manufacturing

Both the engine and transmission facilities are landfill-free. These facilities use a process to reuse, recycle or convert to energy all waste created in their daily operations, which conserves resources.

The Arlington, TX, assembly and select transmission facilities (Toledo, OH, and Baltimore, MD) feature designated habitat areas certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council, which provide ecological benefits. Landfill gas supplies a portion of the energy needed to heat and cool the Toledo, OH, and Baltimore, MD, transmission facilities, which makes the facility less reliant on fossil fuels.

End-of-Life Recyclability

After the vehicle’s useful life, 85% of it is recyclable. The majority of its components can be broken down and recycled, which conserves resources and reduces landfill deposits.
