Get to Know Spark EV

Be electric

The all-new 2014 Spark EV features a lithium-ion battery that offers gas and tail pipe emissions-free power and performance. This urban vehicle utilizes some of the same cutting-edge electric power technology proven in the Chevrolet Volt, the best-selling plug-in car of 2012. Spark EV includes regenerative braking, which captures energy that would otherwise be lost while braking, decelerating or going downhill. It also offers liquid thermal conditioning, which maximizes its performance in extreme weather conditions. This provides the best performance from the battery and helps ensure its longevity. And the battery is backed by an 8-year/100,000-mile limited warranty.

Get ready for takeoff

Spark EV features an innovative electric propulsion system drive unit paired with a lithium-ion battery. Without the traditional transmission, torque has nowhere to go except directly to the tires and the road. This is why Spark EV achieves 0 to 60 mph in under 7.6 seconds. With 400 lbs.-ft of torque, the connection is direct: head, right foot, power, pavement. Tuned specifically for its electric propulsion system, Spark EV puts power in all the right places at the moment it’s needed for a sporty and responsive ride. Fun fact: this mini car is best-in-class when it comes to torque, generating more than the Ferrari 458 Italia and Porsche Carrera S. And Spark EV features a turning radius of 33.8 feet, which beats out the Mini Cooper, so parallel parking in the city is seamless and simple.

Charge it up

Two current charging options for the 2014 Spark EV give city drivers choices. The standard 120V cord plugs into any household outlet. For a faster charge, available 240V chargers can fully charge the battery in just seven hours. Have an available 240V charger installed where you park your Spark EV so you can plug in at night and be good to go by morning. Spark EV owners and lessees are eligible for up to a $500 discount toward the purchase of a 240V charger from Bosch. Professional installation is required, so visit Bosch Automotive Service Solutions for more information.

Also, coming soon is SAE Combo Fast Charging, the newest charging option on Spark EV that will be available near the end of 2013. Chevrolet will be offering this new out-of-home charging feature as an available option on select vehicles estimated to start arriving in dealerships by December. The revolutionary SAE Combo Fast-Charging stations can charge the battery to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. It’s the future of electric charging. Look for public fast-charging stations to start appearing in late 2013.

No matter how you charge Spark EV, you will feel the savings. With an average of 128 MPGe city and 109 MPGe highway, and an average range of 82 miles per charge, Spark EV brings you savings for the long haul. With an EPA-estimated fuel cost savings of $9,000 over 5 years compared to the average new vehicle, Spark EV owners will save an estimated $150 a month.

Instant feedback

Spark EV gives you instant digital feedback through a 7-inch diagonal high-resolution, full-color, configurable LCD screen in the Driver Information Center to help you get the most out of every kilowatt. Keep an eye on battery charge and how energy is being used and created. Go boldly thanks to confidence range feedback that provides an accurate picture of your estimated range based on your personal driving style. You can even enhance efficiency and have a ball doing it with the Efficiency Gauge. One of the greatest factors in getting the most out of each charge is driving style, so simply keep the green ball in the center of the gauge and enjoy optimal battery efficiency.

Spacious and stylish

The interior balances a flowing, spacious design with a get-up-and-go spirit. Features like bright electric blue color accents, chrome and available leatherette mix with a sporty cockpit vibe complete with a motorcycle-inspired instrument cluster. And with 86.3 cubic feet of passenger space, the Spark EV offers more passenger room than Scion iQ, Fiat 500 and smart fortwo. Seat four comfortably or cart your stuff around town. Fold down the rear seat and have a full 23.4 cubic feet of storage space for almost anything you need to bring with you like groceries, camping gear or your weekend get-away bag.

Quiet inside and out

Because it’s electric, Spark EV is surprisingly quiet on the outside, but due to the interior’s extensive refinement along with sealing and insulation, it’s shockingly quiet on the inside too. Get in and leave the city noise behind.

Similar to the Chevrolet Volt, Spark EV features a prominent closed upper grille and an automatic shutter system to reduce drag and guide airflow around the vehicle. Full-length underbody panels help reduce drag while wheel deflectors and an integrated rear spoiler carry airflow around and away from the car. Its lean, muscular design put to work aerodynamically helps Spark EV splice through the air with the greatest of ease.

2014 Chevy Spark EV Safety - Air Bags

Our top priority: you

At Chevrolet, the safety of drivers and their passengers is a top priority. That’s why every Spark EV comes with technology that helps you stay in control, like the StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System, which helps you stay on track on slippery surfaces. There’s even Hill Start Assist that helps with those steep inclines by holding the vehicle in place for a second after the brake is released to help you keep moving forward.

2014 Chevy Spark EV Safety

In the event of a collision, safety features like 10 standard air bags help protect you and your passengers. Crucial information can be instantly relayed to the OnStar® Command Center via the OnStar Automatic Crash Response system. At the Command Center, trained Advisors utilize GPS technology to pinpoint your exact location and can request that help be sent right away – even if you’re unable to respond. As all of this is happening, they’re in constant contact, reassuring you and updating you on the status of the situation. It’s part of OnStar Directions & Connections® Plan, standard for the first three years on every Spark EV.

Check out its Ecologic features. Here at Chevrolet, we believe in being a responsible steward of our environment. We’ve developed a way to communicate some of the environmentally significant features of each vehicle we make. We call it Ecologic.

Every aspect of Ecologic is audited by Two Tomorrows, an independent third-party sustainability auditor. To learn more about Ecologic and the Two Tomorrows process, click here.

Fuel-Saving Technologies

Spark EV uses stored electricity to propel the vehicle. Regenerative braking recaptures the energy of the car’s forward motion and converts it into electricity. By recycling some of the energy generated from braking, the battery is supplied with recaptured energy without producing any emissions.

Low rolling resistance tires reduce the energy needed to keep the Spark EV moving, which helps the vehicle use less electricity.

Spark EV uses active aero shutters that close at higher vehicle speeds to reduce drag and reduce the energy needed to propel the vehicle.

Responsible Manufacturing

The assembly facility is landfill-free. This facility uses a process to reuse, recycle or convert to energy all waste created in its daily operations, which conserves resources.

End-of-Life Recyclability

After the vehicle’s useful life, 85% of it is recyclable. The majority of its components can be broken down and recycled, which conserves resources and reduces landfill deposits.
