Jeff Williams, co-owner of the restoration shop Mile High Muscle, says the build of this 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle is the realization of a dream. Under the large, Pro Stock-inspired all-steel hood is a Chevrolet Performance ZZ632/1000 crate engine — the largest and powerful ever from Chevy. The car is also built on a bespoke pro-touring chassis and incorporates many additional resto-mod updates.
The electronically fuel injected ZZ632/1000 is the ultimate crate engine from Chevrolet. It is rated at 1,004 horsepower on premium, 93-octane pump gas, with highlights including a tall-deck block, all-forged rotating assembly, racing-inspired RS-X spread-port cylinder heads, crank-trigger ignition with individual coils. The crate engine package includes a controller for the EFI system.
Interior updates include an aftermarket steering wheel, modern air conditioning and gauges that work with the powertrain’s electronic control system, but the rest of the black vinyl cabin appears largely stock. One additional non-original item is the shifter linked to a TREMEC TKO 600 five-speed manual transmission.
The Chevelle’s vintage sheet metal is nestled over a Speedtech Performance ExtReme Chevelle 1969-1972 A-Body chassis with a Torque Arm Rear Suspension. The front suspension includes coilovers and a rack-and-pinion steering system. There is also a Wilwood AERO6 Big Brake kit, which features six-piston front calipers and drilled-and-slotted rotors.
Bringing up the A-body’s rear is an aftermarket 9-inch axle assembly fitted with 35-spline axle shafts. The car also rolls on Schott Mod 5 eXL wheels, measuring 18 x 8 inches in the front and 18 x 12 inches in the rear. Nitto NT555 tires, including rear drag radials, are mounted on the polished aluminum rims.
