“We just like building crazy stuff,” says Brad DeBerti, about the wild, six-wheeled 1965 Chevy C10 he built with his father, Doug. The pair operate DeBerti Designs, which is known for over-the-top custom creations. In addition to the six-wheel configuration, the truck is powered by a Whipple®-supercharged Chevrolet Performance LSX376-B15 crate engine. The big blower rises prominently through the truck’s hood.
Chevrolet Performance’s LSX376-B15 crate engine is the foundation for this C10’s powertrain. The engine features forged internals to support turbocharging and supercharging. A large-displacement Whipple twin-screw supercharger provides the boost for this engine. It is mounted on a charge cooler, which adds height to the assembly and helps push the supercharger through the hood.
The tandem rear axles include a pair of 9-inch housings linked by a custom-made secondary driveshaft. That means all four rear wheels are driven, which makes for a very interesting smoke show during burnout demonstrations. The engine’s torque is transferred to the axles via a GM 4L80-E four-speed automatic transmission.
Along with the supercharger and its drive belt rising through the hood, red velocity stacks mounted on the throttle bodies contrast sharply with the body’s black paintwork and supercharger’s black case, creating even greater visual distinction for a vehicle designed as rolling mechanical artwork. Indeed, subtlety was never part of the plan with this customized C10
The rear of the truck is customfabricated, including the bed and tail, along with the enormous rear wing. In fact, almost every panel on the truck was custom-made or modified. Additionally, the matte black finish lends it a somewhat sinister appearance.
There’s no bed floor with this Chevy, as the intricacies of the chassis are far more interesting. The custom frame is lengthened to accommodate the extra rear axle, and it incorporates hydraulics to adjust the ride height. The chassis also incorporates a racing-style roll cage in the cab. Also visible here is the large fuel cell, along with the mufflers and outlets for the exhaust system.
