Ronnie Long has owned a dozen vintage Chevy II models over the years, but this 1964 Nova 400 is one of the most radical and powerful. Its supercharged Chevrolet Performance LSX376-B15 crate engine produces more than 700 horsepower, all channeled through a TREMEC® transmission and into a Pro Touring-built chassis that incorporates track-capable hardware.
Chevrolet Performance’s LSX376-B15 crate engine is the foundation for this Chevy’s powertrain. The engine is offered with forged internals to support turbocharging and supercharging but is delivered without an induction system, which allows builders to complete the engine with the power adder of their choice. This engine is topped with a Whipple® twin-screw supercharger, which helps it produce more than 700 horsepower.
Inside, the Nova’s cabin is dressed in red, from the leather upholstery to the door panels, instrument panel and more. It has a vintage appearance but incorporates numerous contemporary upgrades, including the air conditioning system, audio system and instruments, which are designed to work with the electronic signals from the engine control unit. There’s also a tilting steering column capped with a custom steering wheel.
The restored body is arrow-straight, which is a must for pulling off such stunning black paintwork. Apart from mild cowl-induction hood, the sheet metal and trim appear stock. The car rolls on Billet Specialties® wheels, wrapped with 275/30R18 tires in the front and 295/35R19 rubber in the rear.
The red leather upholstery lends a decidedly upscale aura to the Chevy II’s interior, while reinforcing the customization that has gone into virtually every square inch of the vehicle. For the record, leather upholstery was not an option for the ’64 Nova.
Chassis and suspension upgrades are extensive and include Detroit Speed, Inc.® components, front and rear. The front suspension has double-adjustable coilovers, while the rear features a 9-inch axle located with Detroit Speed’s QuadraLink suspension. It also includes coilovers. Detroit Speed also supplied a mini-tub kit to provide more room for the fat, 295-series rear tires.
