Jeff Thisted found this 1955 Chevy 210 Handyman wagon in New York approximately 15 years ago. It had already been rebuilt with a Small Block engine, air conditioning and more, but Thisted took the car to the next level with an LS swap. He upgraded it again with a Chevrolet Performance LSX376-B15 crate engine, which serves as the foundation for a supercharged powertrain that produces more than 700 horsepower.
Under the hood is a Chevrolet Performance LSX376-B15 crate engine, which features forged internals to support the boost from supercharging or turbocharging. In this case, its supercharging, with a 3.0L Whipple® twinscrew blower helping pump up the engine’s output to a dyno-tested 773 horsepower. The engine is backed by a GearStar®-built 4L80-E four-speed automatic transmission.
The Handyman’s interior was redone with Dark Saddle upholstery draped on TMI™ seats, along with a matching dash pad and door panels. There’s also a Vintage Air® climate system, an updated radio and more. On the retro side of things, the vintage-appearing steering wheel evokes vibes from Sixties-era customs.
On the exterior, the Handyman wagon’s classic body has been left essentially untouched, but with a few trim and lighting upgrades. They include modern LED lighting in the front turn signals and a vintage C1 Corvette grille insert. The body also wears Autumn Bronze Metallic paintwork that is a contemporary twist on a vintage hue.
The original analog instruments of classic cars are incompatible with the digital gauge signals from modern powertrains featuring electronically controlled engines and transmissions, like this ’55 Chevy. That’s why they were replaced with Dakota Digital® RTX instruments, which look original but are designed to accept the electronic signals from the engine control module as well as the transmission’s vehicle speed sensor.
The body is mounted on a Roadster Shop™ chassis that not only contributes to the car’s lowered look but enhances ride and handling with greater strength and the incorporation of contemporary suspension and steering elements. There’s also a set of Wilwood™ four-wheel disc brakes behind the classic-appearing American Racing® Torq Thrust aluminum wheels.
