The North Carolina-based Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour is a popular Late Model series, with its Late Model Stock and Pro Late Model classes. The Pro Late Model division allows competitors to use the Chevrolet Performance CT400 racing crate engine.
Also known as the “GM 604” for its part number, the Chevrolet Performance CT400 crate engine featured in the Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour can be used straight from the factory, or with a few upgrades. Competitors using the un-modified version receive a weight break to help level the playing field.
Crate engines are mandated in pavement cars known as Pro Late Models — lightweight race cars that mirror their fire-breathing Super Late Model cousins. Crate engines are used throughout the class to help keep down costs for competitors, while open engine options are allowed in the Super Late Model class.
The CT400 from Chevrolet Performance is built with a cast-iron block featuring four-bolt main caps. It also has a forged steel crankshaft and high-strength aluminum pistons, along with Fast Burn aluminum cylinder heads that incorporate LS-style beehive valve springs for high-rpm performance.
To ensure parity on the track, every CT400 racing engine is constructed with all-new components and features tamper-proof factory seals. Output ratings for the engine are 404 horsepower and 406 lb.-ft. of torque.
When it comes to putting power to pavement, week after week and track after track, the Small Block-based Chevrolet Performance CT400 racing crate engine is designed to deliver durability as well as performance.
