FAQS

What if I need to charge before it is scheduled to start charging?

You have two options to opt out of charge events:

a. Unplug/Plug In: To override your daily charging preferences, after plugging in your EV, simply unplug and plug in your vehicle. This will cancel the daily charge schedule and your vehicle should not experience a charge delay. Your charging preferences will then resume on the next charge event.

b. Opt-out via Text Message: If you have selected to receive text notifications about this program via the Chevrolet Smart Charging Portal, you will be sent a notification via text message prior to each charge event. To opt out of that charge event, simply reply “No” to the text message. Your charging preferences will then resume on the next charge event.

You can return to the Chevrolet Smart Charging Portal at any time to update your charging and notification preferences. The Chevrolet Smart Charging Portal is at smartcharging.chevrolet.com.

What if I no longer want to participate in the program?

If you no longer wish to participate in the Smart Charging Program, you may return to the Smart Charging Portal at any time to unenroll. The Smart Charging Portal is at smartcharging.chevrolet.com.

Why is Chevrolet offering these programs?

The Smart Charge program helps EV drivers provide a better future by charging vehicles at times when it’s most beneficial to the energy grid. Throughout the program, Chevrolet is collaborating with various energy providers and will work together to respond to the energy grid’s needs through demand response events. After the energy provider calls a demand response event, Chevrolet will adjust the charging times of vehicles, keeping in mind the charging preferences of each customer. There are typically about four to 10 events per year (although the number is not predetermined). Drivers will have the option to opt out of each event if charging needs have changed.

How do I enroll?

Owners of a 2016-2019 Chevrolet Volt or a 2017-2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV are able to enroll through the Chevrolet Smart Charging Portal at smartcharging.chevrolet.com.

How will my charging be scheduled?

You set your charging preferences to help ensure your vehicle is ready to go when you need it. Set your charging preferences via the Chevrolet Smart Charging Portal at smartcharging.chevrolet.com.

Your charging will be shifted (delayed) when you are plugged in and your energy provider identifies that shifting your vehicle charging time can help the energy grid operate more efficiently and will not interfere with your charging preferences.

If your enrollment request is approved while your EV is plugged in and charging, Chevrolet will begin charge management at the next demand response event, after your vehicle reaches its current departure time.

How do I set my vehicle to Immediate charge mode?

Setting your vehicle to Immediate charge mode is necessary for the program to work. To do this, log in to your myChevrolet App, select “Charge Status,” and then scroll down and look for “Charge Mode.” Select “Immediate” and you are all set. If in your vehicle, press the energy button on the touchscreen and then touch the Charging icon to show and adjust your charge mode to Immediate.
