Performance Data Recorder: Your digital driving coach

The Performance Data Recorder (PDR) — available on all 2018 Corvette models as well as Camaro 1LE and ZL1 coupes — turns your vehicle into an advanced driving analysis tool. With just two simple clicks, you can record every aspect of your driving, including real-time audio and video, as well as up to 34 channels of performance data. Relive your favorite moments on the track, then dive into the data and analyze every turn.

A Mode for every road

In Track Mode, PDR overlays the maximum level of data onto your drive video, including speed, rpm, throttle and braking, g force, location-based track map, lap times and start/finish lines.

When PDR is used in Sport Mode, your drive video shows fewer details on the overlay but includes key data such as lateral g-force.

In Performance Mode, the PDR records key performance metrics, such as 0-to-60 mph acceleration, 1/4-mile elapsed time, as well as 0-to-100-to-0 mph runs.

For scenic drives, set PDR to Tour Mode. You’ll be able to relive and share memorable moments with no data overlay, just driver-POV audio and video.

More than a track tool

While Track mode is designed to help you improve your driving skills, Sport and Tour modes take on a more leisurely role, letting you capture video of scenic drives and share with friends on your favorite social networks.

Whatever mode you’re in, the Performance Data Recorder is a helpful tool integrated into your new Corvette or Camaro.

Park with peace of mind

Valet Mode can be used to monitor the use of your vehicle when others are behind the wheel, recording video and vehicle data. When Valet Mode is engaged, other drivers are notified in the touch screen that recording is occurring. Valet Mode is also enabled with a 4-digit code that locks out storage, personal data and the audio system (Corvette only).

Video + Data

The PDR system records video using a front-mounted HD video camera within the rearview mirror. Your voice is recorded by a dedicated microphone, which lets you narrate your drives. In order to capture real-time performance data, a telemetry recorder is integrated into the vehicle’s Controller Area Network (CAN) to access vehicle information ranging from engine speed to braking force and steering wheel angle. For more precise positioning, the system uses a dedicated GPS receiver operating at 5 Hz.

Real-time data overlays

A dedicated SD card reader stores all your driving data. Recording time depends on the capacity of the memory card (not included). The resulting video — with real-time data overlays — can be viewed on the vehicle’s 8-inch diagonal color touch-screen when parked or downloaded to a computer or tablet for further editing, analysis and sharing.

Analyze your data with Cosworth Toolbox

Don’t just watch and share your drives — dive into them. Developed by the motorsports engineering company that supplies the Corvette Racing data acquisition and telemetry system, Cosworth Toolbox software lets you comb through performance and lap metrics with a race-derived program that acts as a virtual driving coach. You can even pull in a hot lap from another driver — one of your buddies or even a pro — and analyze it side by side with yours. Click the button below to download the Cosworth Toolbox software.

Four steps to improvement

01 - SET IT

From the home screen of the 8-inch diagonal color touch-screen on your instrument panel, simply tap the PDR icon, select your preferred data overlay and press “Start Recording.”

With the PDR system set to record, put your vehicle through its paces. Define your start/finish line. Run laps on the track. Try out new techniques. Or simply record a scenic drive.

03 - SAVE IT

The PDR system saves your videos, with your selected data overlay, onto an SD memory card in the glove box. Pull over and watch the playback, or transfer files to a laptop or tablet.

Finally, analyze your driving using Cosworth Toolbox software. This program dives deep into performance metrics, giving you valuable information on how to improve your technique.
