...Even When You’re Not Working

Wherever you travel across this land, you’ll see that Chevy Silverado is on the job. Carrying the weight. Building the bridges. Working the family farms. And sometimes, just working to take a break from it all. Whether you need a pickup truck to haul a truckload of materials to a job site or simply haul it out of town for a weekend camping trip, you need a pickup that works for you — even when you’re not working. That truck is the 2012 Silverado 1500, the long-lasting, dependable full-size pickup truck that fits your lifestyle.

From getting there to getting away from there, Chevy Runs Deep.

Exterior

What Makes a Silverado a Silverado?

You can count on Chevy to take a great truck and make it even greater. For 2012, many models have a fresh new look, but underneath they’re still the Silverado 1500 on which you’ve come to depend. Like most Silverado models, they’re equipped with smooth responsive handling and the StabiliTrak® Electronic Control System that now includes Trailer Sway Control and Hill Start Assist (excludes Silverado Hybrid).

Bold New Look

Silverado LS, LT and XFE have an updated front end that includes a chrome mesh grille and chrome bumper for a sleek, contemporary look. And Silverado LTZ now features a body-colored grille surround with chrome mesh.

New 20" Wheels

The 2012 Silverado rules the road with these slick, multi-faceted 20" Chrome Clad aluminum wheels.

New Exterior Colors

For 2012 Chevy added new color choices, bringing Silver Ice Metallic, Mocha Steel Metallic, Black Granite Metallic and Graystone Metallic to the lineup. The luxurious White Diamond Tricoat is available on LT and LTZ Crew Cabs.

Interior
There’s One Place Like Home

You buy a truck for its capability, but you still like your creature comforts. And Silverado has plenty: low step-in height for easy access, dual-firmness foam for outstanding seat comfort, generous front-seat legroom and abundant storage are just some of its features. Some are standard, some are optional—all are part of the Silverado experience. Here’s what else Silverado offers:

New Colors

Color choices for LT and XFE models now include Light Cashmere color with Dark Cashmere color and Dark Titanium color with Light Titanium color. Silverado LTZ with Ebony interior now features dramatic metal brush appearance.

Heated and Cooled Seats

A new option for the 2012 Silverado 1500 LTZ is the available heated—and cooled—front seats for year-round comfort.

Interior Storage/Functionality

170 degree opening extended cab doors for easy loading, locking underseat storage, dual glove boxes, near-flat load floor in crew cabs, one-hand flip up rear bench seat make it easier to load Silverado for the task at hand.

Capability

2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Available Vortec 5.3L V8 Fuel Efficient Engine
The Work Ethic You Love. The Power and Payload You Need.

Every proven Vortec V8 engine available on Silverado is capable of generating over 300 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque. Or step up to the available Vortec 6.2L V8 that generates 403 horses and 417 lb.-ft. of torque. Not surprisingly, all that power is complemented by a lot of payload capability: 1,937 lbs. for Crew Cab and 1,908 lbs. for Extended Cab models with the available MAX Trailering Pack4.

Pulls Its Weight, And Then Some

With the available MAX Trailering Pack, Extended Cab models can tow 10,700 lbs. and Crew Cab models can pull 10,600 lbs.8 The package includes:

  • A strong, 9.5-inch rear axle with 3.73 axle ratio and disc brakes that helps handle the biggest loads
  • The Vortec 6.2L V8 engine with 403 horsepower and 417 lb.-ft. of torque
  • Z82 Trailering Package and heavy duty suspension

These trucks will also include GM segment-exclusive automatic locking rear differential providing added grip when you need it.

Legendary Z71 Performance

The available Z71 Off-Road Package includes:

  • Z71 Off-Road suspension
  • 46mm twin-tube high-pressure gas-charged shocks
  • Off-road jounce bumpers
  • Skid Plate Package with a frame-mounted transfer case shield
  • GM segment-exclusive automatic locking rear differential providing added grip when you need it
  • Bright sill plates
  • Available Z71 Appearance Package: 18" aluminum wheels, body-color mirrors and door handles, body-color grille with chrome insert, Z71 gauge cluster, bright sill plates, unique Z71 decals, and Rancho® shocks.
Frame Technology

A hydroformed fully boxed front frame section allows for fewer welds and provides immense overall strength and durability. The rear frame is also fully boxed back to the spare tire crossmember, where it becomes C-channel. This ingenious, strong design boosts payload capacity without adding unnecessary mass.

When it comes to ride and handling, Silverado's coil-over-shock front suspension and a wide front track provide great on-center feel, smooth out minor road irregularities, and supply excellent handling and stability. Durable, fade-resistant front and rear shocks supply an unexpectedly smooth and controlled ride.

Powerful and MPG Efficient

The available Vortec 5.3L V8 offers an impressive combination of 315 horsepower and 335 lb.-ft. of torque and 15 MPG city, 21 MPG highway5 when running on gasoline—fuel economy no competitive V8 full-size 4x4 pickup can beat. In fact, XFE offers better V8 fuel economy than Ford F-150, Dodge Ram and Toyota Tundra, at 15 MPG city, 22 MPG highway. Click here to read more about fuel efficiency

Towing and Hauling

Silverado's Tow/Haul Mode enhances performance while pulling a trailer or hauling heavy loads. When activated, this feature modifies the automatic transmission shift schedule and helps reduce throttle pedal activity by the driver while traveling over rolling terrain. New for 2012, is Cruise Grade Braking, which uses transmission downshifts to allow engine compression braking to slow the vehicle and it's load. It works in and out of Tow/Haul Mode on 5.3L and 6.2L engines.

E85-Capable7

Every Silverado 1500 non-hybrid V8 engine can operate on E85.

  • E85 - a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline
  • Mostly renewable fuel
  • Can help reduce our dependence on petroleum and reduce tailpipe emissions.

Safety
Before, During, and After the Crash

There are three stages of safety, and Silverado takes every one of them as seriously as you do.

Before

StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System helps you keep on the road and in control. The control module compares your steering input with the vehicle’s actual response and then, if necessary, makes small, individual applications to help keep you on track. In 2012, StabiliTrak includes Hill Start Assist and Trailer Sway Control — even more assurance (not available on Silverado Hybrid). A Tire Pressure Monitor17 keeps a constant watch on the inflation level of the vehicle's four road tires.

During

Six air bags18 are standard in Silverado 1500: driver and right-frontal passenger dual-stage frontal air bags; head-curtain side-impact air bags for the front and rear outboard seating positions; and front-seat mounted air bags for thorax and pelvic protection. You’re also surrounded by a high-strength steel safety cage and strategically placed crush zones to help absorb and channel crash energy in case of a collision. Click here to read more about vehicle safety

After

OnStar® with Built-In Automatic Crash Response8 is standard for the first six months on most models. In a collision, vehicle sensors can alert an OnStar Advisor who is immediately connected into your vehicle and can request emergency help be sent to your exact GPS location, even if you can’t respond. Learn more about OnStar.
