turbo hwy

Designed to be a car of firsts, Sonic Sedan has many claims to fame.

It’s the first car in its class with an available turbocharged engine and to offer up to 40 mpg hwy. Sonic is also the first and only car in its class to ever receive a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for Safety from NHTSA and to offer 10 standard air bags. So it’s really not surprising that the Chevrolet Sonic Sedan received the “Highest Ranked Vehicle Appeal among Sub-Compact Cars, Two Years in a Row” by J.D. Power.

And there’s even more to rave about with the extensive care that Chevrolet provides. The 2014 Sonic comes standard with Chevrolet Complete Care that includes oil and oil filter changes, 4-wheel tire rotation and a 27-point vehicle inspection.

The newest, turbocharged addition to the Sonic lineup.

The Sonic RS that you know and love is now available in a sedan model. With the proven performance of Sonic RS and Chevrolet MyLink keeping you connected, there’s no doubt that this is the most fun-to-drive Sonic yet. So fun, in fact, that Sonic RS was

featured on Road & Track magazine’s list of the 12 best cars under $30,000. Whether sedan or hatchback, there’s a Sonic RS that fits into your life perfectly. One thing is for sure, it’s not the same old sedan you’re used to.

This sporty sedan is powered by the ECOTEC® 1.4L turbocharged engine that boasts 138 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of torque. The Sport-Tuned suspension and lowered ride height boost the performance feel, while a unique front fascia enhances the road-hugging stance.

Take that power to the road – efficiently. Sonic RS Sedan offers an impressive EPA-estimated 27 MPG city/34 highway for manual transmission models.

The dramatic design features a sportier exterior appearance, but the refinements don’t stop there. The interior features aluminum sport pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and leather-appointed front bucket seats. Sonic RS Sedan is available in three colors: Black Granite Metallic, Silver Ice Metallic and Summit White.

As your comprehensive owner benefit program, Chevrolet Complete Care goes above and beyond to ensure that owner satisfaction is a top priority for all 2014 purchased and leased vehicles. Backed by 2 years or 24,000 miles of included scheduled maintenance, warranty coverage that features powertrain, bumper-to-bumper, rust-through protection, plus 5 years or 100,000 miles of roadside assistance with courtesy transportation, you can be confident you’re getting the most out of your investment. See for yourself how Chevrolet Complete Care stacks up against the competition.

Introducing the first Sonic Dusk

The Sonic Dusk, planned to be available in late spring 2014, will arrive with the refined style of a premium sedan. The subtle Ashen Gray Metallic exterior is contrasted by matte-finish upper and lower grilles, door handle inserts and decklid trim. A ground effects package, rear spoiler and 18-inch aluminum wheels with Midnight Silver finish complete the modern aesthetic.

Under the hood, the ECOTEC® 1.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing gives you all the power you want and offers up to 40 MPG hwy. Standard 4-wheel antilock front and rear disc brakes give you added peace of mind.

Inside, Jet Black leather-trimmed seats with sueded accents and Mojave inserts set the tone for a pure driving experience. Mojave stitching and door and instrument panels enhance the overall mood. Sonic Dusk is also equipped with a rear vision camera and Chevrolet MyLink Radio, which integrates a smartphone and stored media by way of Bluetooth® wireless technology, plug-in auxiliary outlet or USB port.

Commands attention

Every inch of Sonic was considered in great detail. From its dramatic lines to the subtlety of the Black Granite Metallic paint around the headlamps, every element works together to create a sophisticated appearance with attitude. From its chiseled front end to its aggressive stance and expressive wheel arches, every detail builds on the other to create Sonic. When you have a car with this much power under the hood and up to 40 MPG hwy it has to be backed by a look to match.

Jaw dropper

People react strongly when they see the exposed headlamps, dual-port grille and sporty stance of the Sonic Sedan. Take it up a level with foglamps and chrome-accented door handles standard on LTZ.

Prepare for takeoff

The dual cockpit interior and motorcycle-inspired instrument cluster with Graphite Silver accents get your blood pumping even before you turn the key. The performance-inspired design elements Sonic boasts on the exterior are exactly what you find when you get behind the wheel. Sonic is a driver’s car, so grab hold of the 3-spoke steering wheel designed for optimal grip and hold on tight.

Comfort with an edge

Yeah, Sonic has an urban edge. But it’s made for comfort too. The seats were designed for you and your friends to kick back and enjoy the ride. That’s easy to do with the perforated leatherette seats in the LTZ, which includes heated seats for the driver and front passenger. And Sonic makes getting around town a breeze with OnStar® Turn-by-Turn Navigation, standard for the first six months. Just press the button and a friendly OnStar Advisor will guide you exactly where you want to go.

Go ahead and load it up

There’s a smart way to make use of space, and Sonic is brilliant. Upper and lower glove boxes keep your stuff easily within reach. Bringing a water bottle with you? There are holders incorporated right into the front doors. That’s just in the front. The rear is pretty impressive too. With 14.9 cubic feet of trunk space, more than Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla, and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, you’ll be able to configure the space for just about anything. So whether it’s skis or a giant sub sandwich, Sonic is game.

40 MPG Highway: 2014 Chevy Sonic Sedan Performance

40 MPG hwy – so many miles, so little gas

Whether you’re commuting during the week or taking a long road trip on the weekend, Sonic, equipped with the available turbocharged engine on LT and LTZ, offers a maximum range of up to 488 highway miles on a single tank of gas. Engineering technology in performance and design makes it possible. The available 1.4L turbocharged engine and 6-speed manual transmission offers up to 40 MPG on the hwy without sacrificing power or athleticism. A lot goes into making a car as fuel efficient as possible, and it all translates to money in your pocket instead of at the pump.

We turbocharged the ride

Consider yourself warned: After you take your friends for a ride, they may begin to show signs of Sonic envy — because when you turbocharge the drive, things get a lot more interesting. Sonic achieved 0 – 60 mph in less than 8 seconds on the test track. Whether it’s driving up a mountain for a morning hike or just merging onto the freeway, Sonic LT and LTZ offer the available power you need. With 138 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of torque, you’ll soon find out that Sonic is the most fun-to-drive car and it offers up to 40 MPG hwy.

Right blend of ride and response

Sonic engineers went through hundreds of suspension variations to discover the right blend of handling and comfort. The result is the amazing agility and athleticism of Sonic. Its standard ECOTEC® 1.8L I-4 engine with 5-speed manual transmission puts the control of driving back in your hands. Sonic engineers took care of business by delivering 138 horsepower and 125 lb.-ft. of torque in the base model. The result is pure driving fun for you.

On top of your game

No matter how you slice it, Sonic offers features that will get you excited to hit the road. Sonic offers standard Hill Start Assist, which helps you stay put on steep inclines while you transition from the brake pedal to the gas pedal. Whether backing into a parking spot on a steep downslope, or launching from a stop on an upward slope, Sonic keeps you steady.

Built with you in mind

Sonic boasts aggressive styling and impressive power, but make no mistake – with Sonic, safety is a priority. It’s the first and only car in its class to ever receive a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for Safety from NHTSA and Sonic was also named a 2013 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Sonic is built around a steel safety cage and offers extensive safety technology for collision prevention, reaction and response to enhance safety before, during and after a crash, if needed. Other advancements you can count on — including daytime running lamps and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System — also help you avoid trouble on the road.

New for 2014, Sonic offers the Advanced Safety Package to help you avoid a collision altogether. The package includes Forward Collision Alert that issues a warning sound to alert you of a possible collision, and the Lane Departure Warning that alerts you if you begin to drift across a lane without signaling. Also new this year is the available rear vision camera. When you shift into reverse, an inset display will appear on your MyLink Radio screen to let you see if anything is in your way. And when Sonic takes off, the StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System with Traction Control kicks in. On slippery roads, StabiliTrak helps you stay on course by detecting the difference between the path being steered and the direction the vehicle is traveling. It then uses the brakes and, if necessary, adjusts engine torque to help keep your Sonic on track.

Sometimes, unfortunately, trouble finds you. If a moderate to severe collision does occur, Sonic is designed to respond quickly as the first and only car in its class with 10 standard air bags. Sensors throughout the vehicle determine how many air bags deploy — including knee air bags for the driver and front passenger. Adding to this protection, the cabin is reinforced with high-strength steel throughout. Meanwhile, front and rear “crush zones” are designed to compress in a controlled manner, helping absorb and channel energy away from the cabin. But our protective measures don’t end there.

In many crashes, built-in sensors automatically contact an OnStar Advisor who is immediately connected into the vehicle to see if you need help. Even if you don’t respond, the Advisor can use GPS technology to pinpoint your location and request emergency help be sent immediately. It’s part of the OnStar Directions & Connection Plan – standard for the first six months. Why? It’s simple: Your safety is important to us.

Fuel-Saving Technologies

Continuously Variable Valve Timing (VVT) adjusts airflow in and out of the combustion chamber under all engine speeds, which helps improve fuel economy and lower emissions.

Electric Power Steering uses an electric motor instead of an engine-driven belt, resulting in a lighter overall workload and better fuel economy.

Smart alternator technology (Regulated Voltage Control) lowers the alternator voltage when the battery is fully charged, which improves fuel economy.

Responsible Manufacturing

Landfill gas supplies more than 20% of the total energy for heating and cooling of the final assembly facility, which makes the facility less reliant on fossil fuels.

The engine and transmission facilities are landfill-free. These facilities use a process to reuse, recycle or convert to energy all waste created in their daily operations, which conserves resources.

Sonic is the only vehicle in its class assembled in the United States. This reduces energy consumption and emissions related to vehicle transport.

End-of-Life Recyclability

After the vehicle’s useful life, 85% of it is recyclable. The majority of its components can be broken down and recycled, which conserves resources and reduces landfill deposits
