Ready to test the limits of how far electric cars can take you?

With its ingenious propulsion system, unlike traditional hybrid cars, Volt lets you drive on pure electricity for your everyday commute and seamlessly switches to gasoline for longer trips. In fact, owners who charge regularly are averaging more than 900 miles between fill-ups.

In just four years, Volt has earned more accolades and more “best buy” awards than any other electric cars on the planet. No wonder it’s America’s best selling plug-in.

Gas is optional

Volt takes gas as well as electricity, but don’t think you’ll be spending much time at the pump. On a full charge, Volt can get an EPA-estimated 38 miles gas-free , and Volt owners who charge regularly average 900 miles between fill-ups.

The extra miles

This isn’t just a car for the commute. When the  gas-powered generator kicks in, producing electricity to power the engine, the range of Volt extends to an EPA-estimated 380 miles with a full charge and a full tank of gas.

Now for the fun stuff

Let’s not forget what is truly important. Volt provides you with an exhilarating drive. 273 lb.-ft. of torque, a track-tested top speed of 100 mph and four versatile driving modes make it clear that driving electric doesn’t mean sacrificing performance.

Turn heads for the right reasons

Volt is designed to look like a car, and a good-looking one at that. Bold lines, complementing an aggressive posture, are sculpted with powerful purpose.

This smooth exterior contributes to the quick and agile performance.

Leave the wind in your wake

When it comes to Volt, form and function unite to create a vehicle that’s sporty, quick, smooth and modern, yet it achieves an extremely low drag coefficient. Countless hours in the wind tunnel influenced the styling of many exterior components including mirrors, a closed grille, rocker panels and the rear spoiler.

As it slices through the air, Volt can travel up to an EPA-estimated 38 miles in EV mode without using a single drop of gas. Plus, Volt uses its gas-powered generator to travel up to 380 miles on a full charge and tank of gas, so you won’t have to worry about being stranded in this car.

Charging for about $1.70 per day

For less than the cost of a latte, you can fully charge your Volt and drive an EPA-estimated 38 miles gas-free. Choose a standard 120V charging unit that allows you to fully charge the battery in about 10 to 16 hours. Or opt for an available 240V charging station that cuts down your charging time to approximately four hours. Professional installation required. Drive Intuitively

If you can drive, you can drive a Volt. Instead of turning a key, you push a blue button. Rather than looking at dials and needles, you check two interactive LCD screens for feedback. Seamlessly switch between four driving modes to best suit your driving style.

Regenerative Braking

Even the simple act of braking has been taken to the next level with regenerative braking, which captures some of the energy usually lost during braking and converts it to electricity that’s stored in the battery.

Kinetic performance

Without a traditional transmission, 273 lb.-ft. of low-end torque has nowhere to go except to the tires and pavement. And with the ability to hit a test-track speed of 100 mph, it all adds up to show how a vehicle with an electric propulsion system can feel so powerfully exhilarating.

Take control of your efficiency

The efficiency gauge and two energy feedback screens provide a quick glance at how adeptly you’re driving. In the center stack, the 7-inch diagonal color touch-screen displays energy usage and power. Located lower on the center stack is the button for selecting your preferred drive mode.

What happens when Chevrolet Volt and BMW i3 REx go head to head? David Noland, Volt owner, and Tom Moloughney, BMW i3 REx owner, traded cars for a day to see exactly how the two range-extended electric rides would match up. The results just might surprise you.

The default mode. Volt uses the energy stored in the battery before seamlessly transitioning to the gas-powered generator, operating smoothly for most driving scenarios.

Sport mode delivers heightened responsiveness and feedback. Select Sport mode if you desire more aggressive acceleration, although the car’s efficiency may be reduced slightly compared to Normal mode.

Switch to Mountain mode before climbing steep grades. Volt will maintain a power reserve for the climb.

Put the battery on hold for highway commutes. This mode powers Volt with the gas-powered generator instead of the battery, saving your electric range for the pace of stop-and-go city traffic.

Top Safety Rating

When it comes to safety, there’s no mistaking that Volt has raised the bar. The 2014 Volt received a 5-Star Overall Score for Safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This accolade speaks volumes.

Throughout the Volt interior, eight air bags are hidden. StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System with Traction Control also comes standard and is there to help keep your steering on course in case of adverse conditions.

Immediate Response

OnStar is standard for three years. Volt automatically relays crucial information to the OnStar Command Center via OnStar Automatic Crash Response. There, trained OnStar Advisors utilize GPS technology to pinpoint your exact location and can request that assistance be sent right away – even if you’re unable to respond.

Preventive Measures

Your drive begins with the aid of an available rear vision camera that alerts you to certain obstacles when traveling in reverse at low speeds. With available Forward Collision Alert, a forward-facing camera alerts you of slowing vehicles while available Lane Departure Warning monitors lane markings and warns you if you are drifting out of your lane without signaling. When you reach your destination, available Park Assist will help you park your Volt, finishing your trip stress-free.

Safety features are no substitute for the driver’s responsibility to operate the vehicle in a safe manner. The driver should remain attentive to traffic, surroundings and road conditions at all times. Read the vehicle’s owner’s manual for more important safety information.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has named Volt a 2015 Top Safety Pick in its Small Car segment. In IIHS testing, Volt achieved a top rating of “Good” in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. With Volt, protection comes standard. And with a brilliant combination of advanced safety features, intelligent passive safety, and cutting-edge technology, there’s no mistaking that Volt has raised the bar.
