Especially if you need both an SUV and a Pickup Truck.

What other vehicle is so versatile that it can change from an SUV to a pickup truck in less than a minute? The 2012 Chevy Avalanche's dual personality is the perfect blend of flexibility and functionality for people who want to be ready for anything at a moment's notice. With the split-folding rear bench seat down and the Midgate® lowered you've got the capability of a full-size pickup truck, while inside you have the comfort, look and feel of an upscale SUV. It's one great vehicle with two distinct personalities.

Exterior
There's no other competitor like it

Because it's both an SUV and a pickup truck, it's hard to miss the unique profile of the Chevy Avalanche. This year, it'll stand out even more with exterior touches like the new Silver Ice Metallic exterior paint, the already available power-retractable assist steps, plus the available matching body-color exterior components.

GM Segment-Exclusive Midgate® Flexibility

The ingenious midgate transforms Chevy Avalanche from a five or six-passenger SUV(3) to a full-size pickup truck. The conversion is easy: just lower the 60/40 split-folding bench seat. From there, the midgate can be lowered for a secured cargo area, or the rear window and three-piece tonneau cargo cover can be removed for more room to transport larger items.

Spacious Cargo Area

Avalanche's cargo box features a lockable tailgate, rigid tonneau cover and top storage box. It can accommodate 4' x 8' building materials, has 50" between the wheel housing, and it offers 45.5 cubic feet of space(4). When it comes to storage capacity, Avalanche has the largest trunk in the industry.

Interior
As capable on the inside

No matter what your Avalanche has to do, it accomplishes the task with plenty of comfort and style. The roomy interior holds up to six passengers3 comfortably and offers a host of features:

Heated leather-appointed seating and steering wheel

If you choose an LT your leather-appointed front seats are heated. Get an Avalanche LTZ and you get a heated steering wheel, plus leather-appointed 12-way power front bucket seats that are heated — and cooled — for year-round comfort.

Dual-zone climate control

You and your front-seat passenger can control your own temperatures. Manual control is standard on the LS, while automatic controls are standard on LT and LTZ.

Remote vehicle start

Is being able to start your Avalanche from your house or office a luxury or a necessity? It's both and it's available on the 2012 Chevy Avalanche.

Capability

5.3L V-8 Engine with 320 Horsepower and 335 Foot Pounds of Torque
Avalanche was built to work hard

Avalanche offers up to 8,100 lbs. of towing capacity6 to haul big items such as boats, snowmobiles or motorcycles. Thanks to its coil-spring suspension, it doesn't sacrifice ride quality.

Proven Vortec Power

Avalanche packs the right combination of horsepower and torque to handle bigger payloads. The standard 5.3L Vortec V8 delivers 320 horsepower and 335 lb.-ft. of torque, giving you the power to take what's inside or behind where it needs to go.

Active Fuel Management Technology

This smart technology activates all engine cylinders when more power is needed and deactivates four of the eight cylinders with seamless precision to conserve fuel. This helps Avalanche offer an impressive EPA-estimated 21 MPG highway and a driving range of up to 650 miles when running on gas.

E85 FlexFuel Capable

The flexibility continues at the pump with the standard FlexFuel-capable engine, which can run on either unleaded fuel or E85, a combination of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline7.

Safety
Protection is great — prevention is better

There are three stages of safety, and Avalanche takes every one of them as seriously as you do. While we can't promise you'll never have a collision, we can promise we've done everything we can to help prevent one and help protect you before, during and after.

Before

StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System helps you keep on the road and in control. The control module compares your steering input with the vehicle's actual response and then, if necessary, makes small, individual applications to help keep you on track. For 2012, StabiliTrak also includes Hill Start Assist and Trailer Sway Control for even more assurance. Rollover Mitigation helps determine potential for vehicle rollover, such as during evasive maneuvers, and applies brake pressure to outside front tire to manage lateral tire grip, reducing tendency for vehicle rollover. And a Tire Pressure Monitor(13), also standard, keeps a constant watch on the inflation level of Avalanche's four road tires.

During

Six Air Bags(14) are standard in Avalanche, including head-curtain side-impact air bags and front seat-mounted side impact air bags. These are in addition to the standard dual-stage frontal, driver and right-front passenger air bags with the Passenger Sensing System. You're also surrounded by a high-strength steel safety cage and strategically placed crush zones to help absorb and channel crash energy in case of a collision.

After

OnStar with Built-in Automatic Crash Response(15) is standard for the first six months. In a collision, vehicle sensors can alert an OnStar Advisor who is immediately connected into your vehicle and can request emergency help be sent to your exact GPS location, even if you can't respond. It's continuous protection, no matter when you need it. Learn more about OnStar
