No, you don’t need a special license to drive a 15-passenger van for personal use, as long as you have a valid standard driver’s license.

However, a commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a passenger endorsement is required under the following conditions:

  • If it’s a government or nonprofit vehicle
  • In certain states depending on the vehicle’s capacity, even if it’s under the 26,000-lb. weight limit
