Google Gemini – your personal AI assistant in the car.
Google
Gemini requires a paid service plan or trial for MY24 and older vehicles. MY25+ vehicles will automatically get voice assistance with Gemini in their vehicle with the standard OnStar Basics.
Does my vehicle have Gemini and how do I enable it?
To check if your vehicle is ready for Gemini:
- Ensure you have an active OnStar plan. Press the blue OnStar button in your vehicle if you need to confirm you have a plan or if you want to purchase one.
- Check that your vehicle has AndroidTM 11 or higher. To do this, press the Settings icon on your center display. From there, press System > About. If you don't have Android 11 or higher, you will need to get an update. To schedule this, press Settings > Check for OTA.
- Your Assistant language must be set to English to enable Gemini in your vehicle. To do this, navigate to Settings > Google > Google Assistant > Language.
- You also must be signed into your Google Account to enable Gemini. To do this, press the Google Play Store icon on your center display. From there, you will be prompted to sign in if you aren’t already.
- Check Google Play in your vehicle for updates for Google
Assistant.* - Follow the on-screen prompts to switch from Google Assistant to Gemini when they appear on your center display after the vehicle update has taken place.
Note: If you don’t see the prompt, try a system reboot (often done by holding the End Call button on the steering wheel while in PARK). If you are still unable to access Gemini in your vehicle, it may not be available yet and will be coming soon.
