How to monitor your engine air filter
Your engine air filter prevents dirt and debris from entering the engine, contributing to optimal engine performance. Here you’ll learn when it’s time to replace your air filter and basic information about the Air Filter Monitor, if equipped.
When to change your engine air filter
Typically, your engine air filter should be changed every 12,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. However, these intervals can change depending on the vehicle model, the kinds of conditions you drive in and how much you drive.
Signs your engine air filter may need to be replaced:
- Reduced fuel economy
- Reduced power
- Reduced acceleration
- Illuminated Check Engine light

You can always check how much air-filter life remains:
- Turn the trip odometer reset stem until “Air Filter Life” displays.
-OR-
- Scroll through the Driver Information Center menu until “Air Filter Life” displays.
The display will show a percentage of air filter life remaining. It also shows other status messages if relevant:

- “Disabled”
- “Action Required. Check Engine Air Filter System.”
Check your Owner’s Manual for instructions on how to reset the monitor after replacing the engine air filter.
Tips
- Ask your Certified Service provider to check the engine air filter whenever you bring your vehicle in for maintenance
