Available Side Bicyclist Alert
What is Side Bicyclist Alert?
If equipped, Side Bicyclist Alert uses radars in the rear corners of the vehicle to detect moving bicyclists in your side blind zones.
When you start your vehicle, the system will briefly display alert icons in the outside mirrors to show you that the system is operating.
What Side Bicyclist Alert does when you’re moving
- If you see an amber Lane Change Alert/Side Bicyclist Alert icon light up in your mirror, that means the system has detected a moving bicyclist or other object in your blind zone on that side.
- If you have your turn signal on in the direction of a detected bicyclist, the icon will flash to alert you. If the system detects a bicyclist, you'll also hear a chime or feel a Safety Alert Seat pulse from the direction of the bicyclist (depending on your alert options).
- A lit icon indicates it may be unsafe to change lanes or open your door.
- A lit icon does NOT indicate that it is safe to change lanes or open your door.
- Before making a lane change, you still need to check your mirrors, glance over your shoulder and use your turn signal.
- If you use your turn signal in the direction of a detected bicyclist, you’ll hear a warning chime or feel a Safety Alert Seat pulse from the direction of the detected bicyclist (if equipped and selected in the Alert Type menu).
Bicyclist alerts in PARK or while vehicle is OFF
Side Bicyclist Alert can also detect approaching bicyclists when your vehicle is in PARK or turned off.
When the feature detects a bicyclist or object near or approaching your vehicle, you will see side-mirror alerts and hear chimes.
These will alert you not to open a door on that side until the bicyclist or object passes. You’ll get multiple alerts if the system detects multiple bicyclists or objects or if a door is opened on the same side as a detected object.
Side Bicyclist Alert will be active for a few minutes after you shift to PARK or turn your vehicle off.
When you get these alerts, you will also see a message in your driver display letting you know that an object has been detected on the right or left side of your vehicle.
How to turn Side Bicyclist Alert off
You can disable Side Bicyclist Alert in the Vehicle Personalization menu in your center display under the Collision Detection submenu.
The system will remember if you turned it off, so if you turn your vehicle off, Side Bicyclist Alert will stay off. You can always turn it on again in the Settings menu.
