1. With the key fob within a three-foot range of the door, press the button on the driver’s door handle once to unlock the driver’s door.

2. Press it again within five seconds to unlock all doors.

a. If you’re using a key card (available on some models), follow the directions on that page instead to unlock the driver’s door.

3. Press the touchpad under the liftgate handle to unlock and lift the liftgate.

a. For vehicles without an exterior liftgate handle, press the exterior button on the liftgate (on some models, this is an emblem).

Note: For vehicle service visits, always bring your key fob with you, even if you use your key card regularly. This ensures technicians can properly access the vehicle.

If your vehicle is equipped with Hands-Free Power Liftgate with Logo Projection, a logo is projected on the ground under the vehicle as you approach the rear of the vehicle with the key fob. Kick straight over the logo.

Some vehicles have door handles that require a different method of Keyless Open. If your vehicle has door handles that extend outward when you approach with the key fob, use the directions found in the How to Use Power-Presenting Door Handles with Keyless Open section of this page.

If your vehicle is equipped with Keyless Open, it will be enabled upon vehicle delivery. If you don’t want this feature, you can disable it by following the directions found in the How to Personalize Keyless Open and Keyless Start section of this page.

1. With the vehicle in Park, press the exterior button on the front fascia (if equipped) to unlock and access the eTrunk^TM and Power Hood.

1. With the vehicle off and the key fob in your pocket or bag (removed from the vehicle), press the button on any door handle to lock all the doors as well as front and rear closures, such as the liftgate or eTrunk^TM and Power Hood.

2. If your vehicle is equipped with Passive Locking, the doors and liftgate will automatically lock within several seconds after the vehicle is turned off, the key fob is out of the vehicle and all doors are closed. This feature can be enabled/disabled in the Settings menu by following the directions found in the How to Personalize Keyless Open and Keyless Start section of this page.

With the key fob inside the vehicle and the vehicle in PARK:

1. Press the brake pedal (and the clutch if a manual transmission).

2. Press the Stop/Start or Power button. The green indicator on the button will illuminate and the vehicle engine will start.

If your vehicle is equipped with a key card, you can start the vehicle within two minutes of unlocking it with the key card.

Note: Pressing the Stop/Start or Power button without pressing the brake pedal will put the vehicle in ACCESSORY mode. 

1. Shift into PARK.

2. Press the Power button.

If you have an electric vehicle equipped with Hands-Free Start, use the instructions provided on that page instead to use that feature.

NOTE: Remote Start should not be used when the vehicle is in an enclosed, unventilated garage. Always ensure your vehicle is locked when remote starting.

Starting the Vehicle with Remote Start:

1. Find the looping arrow button on your key fob.

2. Press it two times.

3. On some vehicles, you need to press the Lock button first. Then press and hold the looping arrow button until the vehicle starts.

4. The turn signals will flash to confirm the remote start worked.

NOTE: Check local regulations for any remote start restrictions.

5. The vehicle will turn off after 20 minutes unless you stop the remote start before then or the vehicle is turned on.

6. Press the brake pedal and the Power button to drive.

NOTE: Remote start can be used for up to 40 minutes of total time. After that, you have to start the vehicle and turn it off before using remote start again.

Canceling Remote Start

You can cancel a remote start three ways:

1. Press the looping arrow button on your key fob. The parking lamps will turn off.

2. Turn on the hazard lights.

3. Turn the vehicle on and then off.

1. Touch Settings on the center display

2. Touch Vehicle.

3. Select Remote Lock, Unlock, Start or Power Door Locks. Here are some features that can be customized:

• Keyless Open — Enable/disable
• Passive Locking — Automatically locks doors and trunk/liftgate after you turn off the vehicle, exit with the key fob and close all the doors
• Passive Unlocking — Determine which doors unlock upon the first press of the button on the driver’s door
• Remote Door Unlock — Changes which doors unlock when you use the key fob Unlock button
• Remote Left in Vehicle Alert — Horn chirps if you accidentally leave your key fob in the vehicle after exiting
• Remote Removed From Vehicle Alert — Horn chirps if the key fob is removed from the vehicle while it’s still on
• Remote Unlock Light Feedback — Exterior lights flash when you unlock the vehicle with the key fob
• Remote Lock Feedback — Exterior lights flash and horn sounds when you lock the vehicle with the key fob

To disable Keyless Open (not available on all vehicles) using your key fob:

Disable:

• With the vehicle off, press and hold the Lock and Unlock buttons on the key fob for three seconds.
• The turn signal lamps will flash four times to indicate it’s disabled. Now to unlock the vehicle and disarm the alarm system, you will have to press the Unlock button on the key fob.

Enable:

• With the vehicle off, press and hold the Lock and Unlock buttons on the key fob for three seconds.
• The turn signal lamps will flash two times to indicate Keyless Open is enabled. 

When you approach the vehicle with the key fob within a three-foot range of the door, the door handles will extend outward. If this happens, you can:

1. Grab the extended end of the door handle.

2. Pull the door open.

To open the door if the pivoting handles have not extended outward (and the vehicle is already unlocked or you have the key fob in range):

1. On the driver or front-passenger door handle, push the end of the handle that normally extends outward to open the driver or front-passenger door.

- You must also push on the driver or front-passenger door handle as described above to prompt the rear door handles to extend.

2. Grab the extended end of the door handle.

3. Pull the door open.

Door handles that are extended outward do not necessarily mean the vehicle is unlocked. Upon your approach, the handles may jut out, but you will still have to unlock the vehicle either by using your key fob or by touching the rear half of the handle surface of the driver or front-passenger door handle.

The door handles will extend if:

• You unlock your vehicle
• You open or close any door
• With Vehicle Locator Lights enabled, you approach within approximately 10 feet (3-4 meters) of your vehicle, with your key fob in range
• You stop and put the vehicle in PARK. (This happens only if Automatic Door Unlock is enabled in Settings)

The door handles will retract to their original position (flush with the door) if:

• You lock your door with either the key fob button, your mobile phone, the interior door lock switch or through passive locking
• There has been no door activity for approximately 5 minutes
• You shift out of PARK and begin driving

Some vehicles have a small sensor you can touch to lock or unlock the vehicle. If equipped, this sensor is only on the driver and front-passenger door handles.

Passive Locking/Unlocking the vehicle using the driver or front-passenger door handles (if equipped and enabled):

1. Touch the small square at the front end of the driver or front-passenger door handle to lock.

2. Grip the handle of the driver or front-passenger door handle to unlock. A sensor will detect your hand wrapped around the handle. It will then unlock the door if the key fob in range.

When your vehicle detects your key fob within three feet, it will activate Welcome Lighting, if equipped. On some models, your exterior door handles will light up.

When you turn off and exit the vehicle, the vehicle may also activate Walkaway Lighting. The degree of the lighting experience ranges from standard to an animated display, depending on model. You can adjust your entry and exit lighting and more in the vehicle’s Settings menu.

To unlock the door, use the mechanical key inside the key fob:

1. Press the small button on the side or back of the key fob while pulling out the side closest to the button. This will reveal the mechanical key inside.

2. Find the small slot on the right side of the driver’s door handle.

3. Insert the mechanical key into this slot and push upward all the way until the cover pops off.

4. Remove the cover and insert the mechanical key into the cylinder underneath.

5. Turn the key clockwise until it stops.

6. Slowly turn the key counterclockwise while pulling the door handle to unlatch the door. When the door is opened, the door handle cover snaps back in place.

In vehicles with a key lock cylinder on the liftgate:

1. Refer to the vehicle’s Owner’s Manual for the specific location of the key lock cylinder.

2. Insert the key into the cylinder all the way.

3. Turn it until you feel the cylinder click back in place.

4. Remove the key and re-insert it to unlock the vehicle.

To start the vehicle:

1. Inside the vehicle, find the key pocket and place the fob into it. The pocket location varies by vehicle model — check the Owner’s Manual.

2. Start the car by pressing the brake pedal and pushing the Stop/Start button.

NOTE: The first time you do this, you’ll see a Driver Information Center (DIC) message indicating no key fob is detected and prompting you to place the fob in the key pocket. When you try again while your key fob is in the key pocket, the vehicle will start.

Here are some common ways you can become locked out of your vehicle when you turn it off and exit:

• You lock the vehicle and close all doors, unaware that the key fob is still inside. The vehicle doesn’t detect that the key fob is still inside, so it doesn’t activate the triple chirp of the horn that lets you know the key fob is still in the vehicle. It also doesn’t unlock the driver door as designed.

- You will only hear three horn chirps if you’ve enabled the “Remote Left in the Vehicle” alert by selecting: Settings > Vehicle > Remote Lock, Unlock, Start > Remote Left in Vehicle Alert. If this alert is not enabled, you will hear a chime if the key fob is detected in the vehicle instead of horn chirps.

• When Passive Locking is equipped and enabled, it automatically locks your vehicle within several seconds after the vehicle is turned off and all doors are closed. The vehicle doesn’t detect the key fob still inside, so it doesn’t unlock the driver door as designed.

Often, the vehicle doesn’t recognize that the key fob has been left inside the vehicle because of interference with the signal the fob uses to operate. This can happen when your key fob comes into close contact with a smartphone or when other interference sources are involved.

- Any key fob signal interference may be caused by other devices that use wireless technology, such as charging cases for wireless ear buds.

• Be aware of any other sources that may interfere with the key fob signal.
• Avoid keeping the key fob in the trunk, as there are certain areas where it might not be detected.
• To help minimize lockout incidents, it is recommended that you keep your key fob on you (in either a bag or pocket), instead of leaving it in the cabin when you exit the vehicle.
