OnStar® Guardian™ App* is included with the OnStar One, OnStar One Super Cruise and OnStar Protect plans. It can also be purchased a stand-alone subscription and allows sharing with up to 7 family members*.

Getting started
The OnStar Guardian App includes key OnStar safety services — Mobile Crash Response, Emergency Services, Roadside Assistance* and Location Status*. You and your family can use the app in — or out — of any vehicle, wherever you are. Once opened, OnStar Guardian can run continuously without action required from the member. You simply need to stay logged into the app and allow the necessary permissions.
 
  1. Download the app onto your Apple or Android device
  2. In the app, follow the prompts for set up. Be sure to allow the app’s requested settings so it can run properly.
  3. Explore the features provided (Mobile Crash Response, Emergency Services Roadside Assistance and Emergency-Certified Advisors*).
  4. Prompts allow you to share the app with up to seven family members. You can share a unique code with them that will link them to your account

How can I manage my OnStar service?

You can manage your account online by signing in to your GM Account, pushing the blue OnStar button in your vehicle and speaking with an Advisor, or calling 1.888.4ONSTAR (1.888.466.7827).

Is the OnStar Guardian app still working if I don’t see a notification on the app?

Once you’re logged into the OnStar Guardian app, it will remain active and functional in the background until you log out, even if you close the app. If you don’t see notifications while on your drive, then once the vehicle is in a parked state, you must enable notifications for the Guardian app in the system preferences on your device.

What smartphones are compatible with the OnStar Guardian app?

The app is currently compatible with select Apple and Android devices (Android 8.0 and above and Apple iOS 12.0 and above as of July 2025).
