How To How to use Surround Vision Recorder

Available Surround Vision Recorder* lets you record, watch and save videos captured by the vehicle’s Surround Vision cameras. You need a USB drive to use this feature.

How Surround Vision Recorder works

1. Surround Vision Recorder lets you record, view and save videos captured by Surround Vision cameras when your vehicle is on.

 

2. When enabled, this feature saves footage captured by the Surround Vision cameras to the USB drive. The system is designed to record 2-hour loops at a time.

 

a. Note: You need to use your own USB drive for this feature. Check your vehicle Owner’s Manual for the location of this feature’s USB port and any requirements for the USB drive.

 

3. Then, when you’re parked, you can scroll through and watch captured footage. The system saves each trip you take as a separate video. You can also export footage from each camera if you want to see videos from a specific view.

 

4. Always use Surround Vision Recorder in accordance with local video recording laws.

How to use the Recordings app

When your vehicle is on and in PARK, press the Recordings icon on the center display.

 

The app will take you to the video player, where you’ll see:

 

  • Video player lets you play, pause, skip forward or back or scroll to other videos
  • A list of recent videos
  • A list of different camera views
  • The recordings options menu
  • An option to safely eject the USB drive

 

Security Recording

 

On some vehicles, Surround Vision Recorder can automatically start recording footage when something triggers the vehicle's alarm. When this happens, all available cameras, including the interior camera, will start recording for 30 seconds.

 

You need to have a USB drive inserted to save and view Security Recording footage.

 

You can find the Security Recording footage in the Recordings app. Each video will be labeled "Security" in the app. You can also export the recording to the USB drive.
 

You can turn Security Recording off in the Settings submenu of the Recordings app.

How do I download the system’s videos to my computer?

You need to use your own USB drive for this feature. Check your vehicle Owner’s Manual for the location of this feature’s USB port and any requirements for the USB drive.

 

After recording with the USB drive in place, all you have to do is safely eject the USB drive from the port, place it in your computer’s USB port reader and then download the system’s videos.

 

You’ll see a button to safely eject the USB drive from your computer to help avoid corrupting files. You also need to safely eject the USB drive from your vehicle before you do any software updates on your vehicle.

Can I use Recordings app to record a conversation?

No. The system does not record audio.

Does GM capture any data from Surround Vision Recorder?

No. GM does not collect data or video from Surround Vision Recorder and Security Recording USB recordings. Video captured by the system is only accessible by USB drive. 

What events will trigger Security Recording?

Any event that triggers the vehicle alarm will trigger Security Recording. These will vary by vehicle and vehicle type. For example, unplugging a charging electric vehicle can trigger the alarm and therefore Security Recording.
