Charging your vehicle with the Dual Level Charge Cord
The Dual Level Charge
WARNING! See the owner’s manual for complete safety warnings. Important safety information includes:
- How to help ensure the safe condition of the Dual Level Charge Cord and all on-vehicle and off-vehicle equipment and connections
- The prohibited use of any non-GM approved adapters/components/devices with the Dual Level Charge Cord
- Safe use conditions during installation, operation and varying weather circumstances
Setting up your Dual Level Charge Cord:
The Dual Level Charge Cord has three components; a 120-volt three-pronged plug, a 240-volt four-pronged plug and a control box with a cord ending in the connector that plugs into your electric vehicle.
- Identify a suitable wall receptacle that has been certified by a professional electrician and is in good condition.
- Mount the control box directly to the wall or stud near a suitable electrical outlet.
Note: The retention eyelets on the control box are optimized for use with #10 drywall screws. - Mount the charging cable to reduce strain on the electrical outlet/plug.
- Snap the corresponding plug into the bottom of the control box (opposite the fixed cable). Align the pins and push firmly until you hear the connector snap into place and you can’t see any glossy black hard plastic.
Note: The connector will not work properly if it isn’t fully inserted into the control box. - Plug the Dual Level Charge Cord attachment plug into the electrical outlet. The control box will perform a short boot-up routine and be ready to charge.
Charging with your Dual Level Charge Cord:
- Open your vehicle’s charge port door and insert the vehicle connector into the charging port.
- A blue light will flash on your dashboard to confirm the connection. This does not mean your vehicle has started charging.
- If the light does not start to flash green after a while, check your charge settings for a delayed charge, which will show a blinking blue light.
a. Check the “Charge Later” or “Home Schedule” sections of the Charging App to confirm or adjust charging preferences. - Once you see a green flashing light, your vehicle is charging.
- Stop charging and disconnect your vehicle in one of the following ways:
a. Press the virtual Stop Charge button in your vehicle’s center display or in the mobile app and unplug the connector from the vehicle.
b. Press the latch release button or Request to Stop button (NACS only) on top of the vehicle connector) and unplug it from the vehicle.
Note: If you’re unable to free a NACS connector from your vehicle, ensure the vehicle doors are unlocked and press the Request to Stop button again. Listen for the inlet’s locking mechanism to retract before pulling the connector out. - Once disconnected from the vehicle, the charging cable can be unplugged from the wall.
Battery Best Practices:
For most GM EVs, capping your battery’s charge at 80% helps promote battery health and optimal regenerative braking performance for daily use.
Drivers of MY27 and newer BOLT EV models are recommended to regularly charge the battery to 100%. This ensures your vehicle accurately displays the available range and battery level and helps you achieve faster overall DC fast charging speeds while on the go.
Note: Your GM EV’s charging status indicator light shares the same display location with the theft deterrent light located on the top/center of the instrument panel. The theft deterrent light flashes red when your vehicle is off and unplugged, but if the light flashes red while the vehicle is connected for charging, this is an indication of a charging error.
