Safety
What makes an airbag inflate?
In a deployment event, the airbag sensing system sends an electrical signal triggering a release of gas from the airbag inflator1. This gas inflates the airbag. The inflator, airbag, and related hardware are all part of the frontal airbag modules packed inside the steering wheel for the driver airbag and in the instrument panel for the right front passenger airbag.
  1. Always use seat belts and child restraints. Children are safer when properly secured in a rear seat in the appropriate child restraint. See the Owner’s Manual for more information.
When should an airbag inflate?
Airbags are designed to inflate1 if the impact exceeds the specific airbag system’s deployment threshold. Deployment thresholds are used to predict how severe a crash is likely to be in time for the airbags to inflate and help restrain the occupants. The vehicle has electronic sensors that help the airbag system determine the severity of the impact The deployment threshold level can vary with specific vehicle design. Frontal airbags are designed to inflate in moderate to severe frontal and near frontal crashes.
  1. Always use seat belts and child restraints. Children are safer when properly secured in a rear seat in the appropriate child restraint. See the Owner’s Manual for more information.
Will a side or rear impact or rollover cause the airbag to deploy?
If the vehicle is equipped with seat-mounted side impact or roof-rail mounted head curtain airbags, they are designed to deploy in a moderate to severe side crash depending on the location of the impact1. If the vehicle is equipped with a rollover capable head curtain airbags, a rollover sensor is designed to deploy the head curtain in a rollover incident. The frontal airbags will not deploy in a side impact or rollover, unless there is also a front or front-corner impact of sufficient severity to trigger the frontal airbags. The airbags will not deploy in a rear impact.
  1. Always use seat belts and child restraints. Children are safer when properly secured in a rear seat in the appropriate child restraint. See the Owner’s Manual for more information.
Is it still necessary to wear a safety belt with the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint system?
Yes! The airbags supplement the protection provided by the shoulder and lap belts. They work with seat belts – not instead of them. All occupants still have to buckle up to get the most protection.
Where can I find information about air bags/supplemental inflatable restraints on Chevrolet vehicles?
To learn about the specific items on your vehicle, please refer to Section 1 in your Chevrolet Owner's Manual, "Seats and Restraint Systems." For general information please visit the safety section on the GM website.
What kind of child-safety seats should I use in my Chevrolet vehicle?
There are no specific child restraints that Chevrolet recommends or endorses, but we do have some information that might be helpful to you.

Chevrolet's seats and seat belt systems are designed to accommodate child restraints. However, we cannot be certain that all child restraints will be compatible with Chevrolet vehicles. It is recommended to follow the vehicle owner’s manual instructions and child restraint manual to determine if your child restraint is suitable within the vehicle.

First, we recommend you work with a child-safety seat manufacturer, or a local retail outlet that sells child restraint seats, for possible suggestions on what type of seat would be most appropriate for your needs. You could also take your child restraint to a checkup event or contact a local CPS technician for additional assistance. There are a couple of websites that have some good information on this topic: In addition, you might want to try checking with your local hospital, police department and fire department for any information they might have.

What is the difference between Ultium and Ultifi?

Ultium is General Motors’ groundbreaking all-new battery platform that brings with it new power, new force, new flexibility and, of course, a new range of possibilities. As configured on the Silverado EV, the Ultium platform’s optimized weight distribution and low center of gravity help overall handling and enable the GM-estimated 400 mile range1 with a full charge, GM-estimated over 660 horsepower2 and over 780 lb.-ft.2 of torque seen on the First Edition RST.

A major enabler of Silverado EV’s technologies will be the brand’s first application of Ultifi, a new Linux-based software platform. Developed inhouse at GM, it separates the vehicle’s software from the hardware to enable rapid and frequent software updates. This will give drivers the opportunity to evolve their vehicles over time with new features, third-party integrations, and more frequent over-the-air updates. This means the ownership experience of a vehicle like Silverado EV changes and updates capabilities over time.

  1. First edition RST GM-estimated range on a full charge based on current capability of analytical projection consistent with SAE J1634 revision 2017 – MCT. Actual range may vary based on several factors, including temperature, terrain, battery age, loading, and how you use and maintain your vehicle. EPA estimates not yet available.
  2. GM estimated. Model year 2024 RST with Wide Open Watts.
What are some of the interior enhancements we can expect with the Silverado EV?
The Silverado EV will be packed with the latest technology. Upon entering the Silverado EV RST, drivers are met with a large 17-inch-diagonal LCD freeform infotainment screen, which is paired with a neighboring 11-inch diagonal driver instrument display. Together with a driver head-up display with a field of view over 14 diagonal inches, a driver can’t ask for more information at their disposal. Additionally, with new hands-free start, the vehicle turns on automatically after the driver enters with an enabled device, leaving hands free to buckle up and get on the road. The Silverado EV was also thoughtfully designed for functional flexibility. The RST features a dual storage floor console with sliding cupholders and a storage capacity of just over 7 gallons!
